PE in vCOh has Offensive and Defensive vet, Why not implement the same vet system across the board here?

Make offensive vet Kill faster and Defensive vet live longer.

Think of the many combinations availible to everyone.  You could re roll 5 of the same armies in the same command trees, and have some vastly different battle results and go with different vets.

No one could complain one side is greater then the other, and no one could claim is carbon copy.

Some people will swear by every combination if we can work it out right and really have a chance to make it work.

I know i play alot of vCOH and have played all armies and i love the PE vet because you are able to select a vet that caters to your style of play, increasing the tactical situation and also allowing for the diversity that everyone in this mod seems to love so much.

Thanks for the read and tell me what you think

I love it, but of course I brought it up like 6 months ago.   Roll Eyes

That it appeals to this being a persistent MMO is the major selling point.  I remember it going over fairly well within the community but it never took roots.

Whether or not it is possible, in a neck and neck tie with whether or not it is desired by the people doing the work is the crash and burn factor.  Generally speaking things which stray too far from vanilla CoH implementation, in terms of units at least, don't go over very well with the powers that be.

But I think its great.

Hell yeah man, thats a great idea.

It works like you said; its easily extensible to multiple vet levels, and possibly in the future to more types of vet for even greater variety.  It is also a tried and tested system that is used in vCOH.

My main concern is for Ucross' sanity  Wink

Seriously though, we already have over double the number of doctrine abilities as vCoH (soon to be triple with 2.0) plus lots of other new gameplay mechanics.  Doubling the veterancy options (and thus exponentially increasing the possible combinations) could be a balancing nightmare!

Maybe we can do something like this in 2.0.  The problem is having more information to send back to the server (as in what veterancy path they took) at the end of the game...

All defensive/offensive bonusses on all 4 factions would end up looking almost exactly the same and that would somewhat hurt the uniqueness of each faction to be honest.

Having a choice between offensive/defensive makes the PE unique.

It could be, but honestly, as long as the value gradients weren't excessive, it would be no different than it is now, in terms of balance.

We basically have 2 different schemas of vet bonus now, to be balanced against one another, except each one is applied to a faction.  With the PE style vet, you could apply the same bonuses to both factions, but there would be 2 different ones.  The boring factor if applying the same bonus to each faction would be offset by the variability of player choice.

Besides, if you are concerned about Ucross' sanity, you are a little late.

Anyway, that's just theorycrafting, if it was something they liked, it would already be in the works, and for all I know it might be.

Just make it a web-based choice only, foo!  No vetting up in game, simple, and somehow sensible.

And Unknown, shut up!

Well if its possible, it seems like a way for everyone to stop saying this vet or that vet is so much better then this or that, and still able to make everyone have differences within the vet system.

Not vetting up ingame is boring and takes away a part of the fun.
Having the same offensive/defensive bonusses for all 4 factions would be boring too, while there could be minor differences, there's only so much you can differentiate between them.

And it would break with the 'keep close to vCoH' tradition Wink.

They should get 2.0 out first.

This topic and idea is panther approved.

Also, I lost a game due to not enough anti-infantry units, so airborne get double damage at each vet level.

More changes to come.

i calculated the vet bonus PE gets, apparently, they still suck compared to americans, but not as much as wermacht, thats because i think they infantry have many global upgrades, like veteran sargeant, group zeal.

however pe's vehicle vet is beast
