I'm going to keep this short.

Bonte was applied for and was accepted to Phil's Coding Team.  A small group of community members who have offered to potentially help contribute on the PHP/backend part of the code.  While there, Phil accidentally gave his team access briefly to the forums database.  Bonte siezed advantage of this and searched though all the development team PMs.  There he found the password to access everything on the site.  Once he had this password, despite the fact that Phil closed down his team's access to the forum database, Bonte was able to keep tabs on all the PMs and posts in the forums (in any forum).  He occasionally PM'd team members stating information that he could have never known without access to areas to which he shouldn't have had access.

Luckily, for him and us, he was never malicious as he could have removed all the databases, and even the code itself.    He was caught when getting clever and adding a group to his forum profile so he could browse the dev forums instead of having to read all the posts in the database using queries.

We had considered banning him forever.  However, he wasn't malicious, only curious, so we thought a week ban would be better.  In the end, after multiple conversation with Ucross and I, we've decided only to wipe his profile.  He also will not be eligible for any War Points for the current war, or the last war. Mainly because we didn't want to affect his brother who still occasionally plays the mod.

There you have it.

Honestly, I don't think you went far enough.  He was doing things he KNEW were secretive and underhanded.  A wipe of this war is pretty meaningless, I would propose a 2-4 week ban once 2.0 comes out.

The really funny thing is that Mr. Hat was bragging on vent about 3 weeks ago saying how his brother was part of the dev team and knew a lot about the coming 2.0... LOL now we know how he was getting the info   Roll Eyes

What he did is closer to warranting criminal charges than a company wipe.  And trust me, it isn't far from being the kind of thing that the FBI would prosecute for.  A former coworker of mine was hit with like 10k in fines + legal fees for changing like 2 lines on our website after he was fired, using passwords that he was given while being an employee.  That it was a mistake of Phil doesn't factor in to it.

Because EiR is not a business is probably the only thing that would separate it from being criminal.  And I'm not certain, it still might be one.  I'm dead serious.  I guarantee that if FL- reported this to the police, that Bonte would be getting interviewed right about now.

Bonte is young.  I saw no reason to pursue anything further.  Forgive and forget.  It could have been absolutely disastrous.

To be honest considering what he was doing with vent servers in the past hes got off lightly and i say you where to leniant on him.

In fact im very annoyed that somehow he walks away with a slap on the wrist for betraying your trust and through his brother shouting it to the community.

You do have backups of the servers, databases, and backend code, right?  Huh
