Contrary to the topic, I'm not new to games whatsoever, and have beaten the single player campaign on hard. Before I bought the retail version of Company of Heroes, I downloaded a cracked version of Opposing Fronts to see what it was like. I think that permanently crippled my computer as when I purchased the "Company of Heroes: Game of the Year" from Gamestop and tried to install, it still thinks that the cracked version of Opposing Fronts is installed and the cracked file that had to bypass the opening login screen.
Now, when I try to do the same, I cannot log into Relic Online, it just gives me the error "Lost connection to Relic Online servers". I deleted the registry entries, all of the game data in an attempt, but still no luck. Anything you guys can think of short of reformatting my computer? I even tried installing on my other HD with no avail. I would really like to play this mod, I'm all signed up as soon as I can figure this out.
If anyone has any ideas to help, please do so. Thanks

he not say "your cd-key is not valid" he say "lost connection" so maybe something is blocking the coh access to the internet... maybe norton or zone alarm?

hmm, which OS you running ? Vista ? Apps under vista have a tendency to put their infos in every single directory they can get their dirty little hands on. did you delete the reg entries by hand ? maybe uninstall CoH as a whole and then run some reg cleaner. what you could also try is have adaware or something similar scan your entire drive. that might help.
i dunno if RO does this or not but maybe you once tried to connect to RO with your cracked version and then they blocked your HW-ID or something.
dunno what else would help tbh except dont install cracked version of games cause you never know what the crack actually does ...

Have you tried removing all versions of COH from your PC and re-installing them. Make sure you remove the directories as well before reinstalling. You may try installing to another location as well...

as i said above, under vista the uninstall information might not get deleted when you modified the game .exe. ive had this problem with Hearts of Iron II, I uninstalled but Traces of the game were still there. had search through the whole uninstall dirs and delete those files by hand, only then stuff started working.

You may download CCleaner and run it after you attempt to uninstall them all too. Run the Registry Cleaner on it, seems to work well... http://www.ccleaner.com

I followed all directions, I ran the CCleaner and I think it helped greatly. I'm running XP SP2, not Vista. I never downloaded a cracked version of CoH, just COHOF. I think the cracked version may have crippled it in that respect, because now the loader ran correctly, whereas before it did not. I'm installing it now, and you should expect to see me soon in the vent and playing.
Thanks for all of the help

The cracked version of OF I had required me to change my hosts in the system32 folder. Make sure you delete those extra 2 hosts if you had the same or nothing will work!

dont wanna get into a discussion about warez but i do think its legit to download a pirated company if your not certain you wanna buy a game or not. i did so with Sudden Strike 3...i really liked 1 & 2 but after reading some bad reviews i decided to download it and have a look before i spend 50€ on it. as it turned out even the time waiting for the download to finish was a waste since it was utter crap.

Yea, doing it to 'check out how good the game is' doesn't justify breaking a law. It's illegal, wether you do it to check out the game before purchasing or not.

Yea, and whomever has not done it before shall cast the first stone. Otherwise, shut up.
