Since we're in the mood to introduce new games, I'd like to recommend Hearts of Iron II.

I won't go into detail, but here's a link. It may be slightly old (3 yrs), but it's crazy fun. Master strategy at its finest!

I've played it for about 3-4 months. The only problem is, there's two kind of people on HOI2. The slow gamer and the fast gamer. The fast gamer only buildings land forces, and the necessary naval forces to allow for them to land and establish a beach head. Air is pointless because you must have uber micro or be a computer to use air strikes and land strikes in close succession before the effects wears off. Additionally, when playing on fast, the territories shift extremely fast requiring lots of clicking and not much room for advance tactics other than trying to encircle your enemy.

As for the slow gamer, it just takes ages.

Did I mention the two gamer types never get along? And, it lags whenever there's more than 3 people.

Yep it great! You can actually pretty much chose any nation that existed during that time period like Tibet! (Just don't expect to be able to conquer the whole world however....)

Generally the Axis start off with the better Generals compared to the Allies, but later on Allies Generals usually become more comparable.

You are somewhat force to follow the historical route, but there is actually a way for Poland to conquer the Germany AI before 1939. (But it very tough and I haven't able to pull it off yet.)

(I have only played Single player since it seems to take too much time online.)

HoI2 is epic win. It still has a very active community, and there are some great mods... I'd recommend anyone who plays HoI2 to take a look here.

My personal favorite: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33568

yeah its an awesome game. but it bloody ridiculous when u have already conquered half the world. it come to a point where its almost unmanageable. since i quite like to micromanage my army & generals, it get to a point where it almost unmanageable with 300+divisions spread over the world. lol i usually gave up after conquering half the world since after that its just steam roll. lol trying to beat the royal navy is almost impossible. but its a damn gd & fun game. there r a few very gd mod outthere as well. anyway i think its a gd idea to use the map layout of Hol2 for the eir war map. dev, wink, wink Wink

Might I also recommend Europa Universalis: Rome, which just came out a couple days ago? (also from Paradox Interactive)
