***** So I finally got my first game in and boy, did I learn a lot. My whole company was screwed from the start with how I built it. But there you go.

I played in a 3v3, my and another teammate were first time players, and then some guy that afterwards we were warned not to play with. So brand new companies basically...and then our opponents were definitely not. Vet 2+ units right out the gate.

Suffice to say we got crushed. Our one guy dropped just after a few minutes, so then it was two newbies vs three vets. Fun? not so much.

Had it been 6 newbs playing..would have been a lot better.

The match program didn't even show who our opponents were..so no way to see how good they were. How do we ensure a more fair matchup?

You don't. This worthless, POS ANTS system makes it basically impossible. It's being replaced by a rating system in 2.0, but that's a ways off. Basically, the best way is to hope that FLdash sees the light and removes ANTS before 2.0.

***** Can someone tell me how you found my bunkers so quick. I don't recall seeing any allies in view, and all of a sudden mortar arty was raining down on one of my bunkers. Then mortars were hitting it.

I lost all my starting squads in under 6 minutes, so I can't say that was really enjoyable.

I like the format of the game, just need to be able to face fresh companies like my own.

Veterancy doesnt fix stupid!

What i want to say with this, yes you will get crushed in your first games of EiR, because its just different to vCoH and even the combination of call ins makes you loose your games in the begin.

Its got nothing to do with vet, if you play against an "old timer" with both vet0 companys, you will still loose, even still get totally */"§$% up. Its just the way it is.

Also, knowledge is the key. To why you got spotted without seeing something. Got some bikes/jeeps around the whole time? I guess not

No offence here, but theres a LOT to learn during the first WEEKS of playing EiR (points at stickie on the homepage news - Big learning curve !!! )

It has a lot to do with vet, people are kidding themselves if they think otherwise  Cool

but yes, there are other factors rendering it very difficult to win your first game. In particular company & platoon composition, which new players always get wrong, but only way to learn that is to do Smiley

Look me up anytime Glacius, I'd be glad to play with you and hopefully give pointers.

Personally speaking, I don't care about the skill level of a player, as long as they fight! Don't sit back and its all good Grin

awesome, more new players complaining after 1 game, when me and other new people joined the mod we just sucked it up and accepted we were newer and expected to get crushed my more experienced players, for Christ sake, this was when we didn't get loads of free cps and rbs.. i didn't realize how whiny people could be sometimes, if you don't like it, don't play it.

I just dont understand  Undecided

Also, I lost a game due to not enough anti-infantry units, so airborne get double damage at each vet level.

More changes to come.

I agree, I can't possibly understand why a new player would want to get a reasonably fair game against people of his own skill level. Why can't they just accept playing against and having no chance whatsoever against the best EIR players?

ah, sarcasm, the refuge of the incompetent! good sir, your wit astounds me!

jesus fucking christ, firstly, the people you played, while in their own rights are good players, they are not the best in the mod, dont exaggerate when you have no idea what your talking about.
secondly, when you buy a new game, or enter a new system, when you are new, it is rare that the opposition will also be new, if you arranged a game in ventrillo previously with new people, then OK. However, if you dont bother to take the time to take that extra effort to get your "fair" game somone else will join. Its hard to get a game, at all, especially as axis.
If a player sees a game, he will almost certainly join it, unless he has one of a few select players on his team that almost anyone would not want to play with.
Honestly, what stopped you winning that game? was it vet? i doubt it, its more likely that you are simply worse/ less experience coh( pertaining to EiR as a mod, no vCOH) players. But who knows? only you and your opposition.
Im not omniscient, and i don't claim to be, but being new to a mod, and expecting even match ups is not sensible, it would rarely happen in any game that has been out for over a year, and you just join it.
I don't see why you expect it to be different here, unless you have an extraordinarily high opinion of yourself, or of the balancing procedures recently incorporated into the launcher, and sorry, but this being an ALPHA, they may not work properly.

Unfortunately, this mod does have a rather steep, and extensive learning curve, but if, and when you overcome it, hopefully you may be able to understand my frustration, there is a large stickie about it as stienmarder pointed out, take a look.

***** Was my first post whining? I didn't think so. I didn't state I lost because of going vs vet. just stating fact...the game wasn't very fun due to many factors. Given the preference, yes, I'd much rather play vs other new players or unvetted companies. Wanting to do that is whining?

Well if thats the attitude of players here, then good luck finding people who want to play. Luckily though, I think Tod is just being an ass and isn't representative of the community here.

For those with advice or encouraging words, thank you very much. I hope to have more enjoyable games of EIR in the future.

please read the whole post before getting annoyed and replaying, it gets nicer.

i was addressing the post above mine, not to yours, though i daresay yours could be torn apart just as easily. Am i trying to be an ass no? do i come across as one? i should hope not, i was trying to explain my feelings, rather than ranting, obviously my linguistic skills have failed in this aspect, and i have come across as a self glorifying elitist, which i try to be.

What i was trying to say is that it will be difficult to get a completly balanced game, the best method imo would be using ventrillo and help from others there at that current moment in time to get a group of "newer" players together would be the best method to attain your desired game of less experienced players.

What i will reiterate is that, if there is an open game, often people, will simply jump in. Due to the hidden system, they have no idea what the teams are like. They are not being malicious, or seeking an easy win, in addition, unfortunately for the newer players, they also have no idea what they are walking into.  This is due to two failings 1) the hidden system and ANTS fails tbh, though i like the system, the points of others against it are worth more than my personal preference.  2) communicate with players to arrange a game before you start, while it can be difficult, it ensures more fun and fairer games, unless you enjoy an uphill battle, and even then, if the slope is too steep, i concur, it is no fun, for either team.

Coming to a forum with an opening post that contained a queery, is mature, and decent of you. However i have read a great quantity of posts from people recently which have been plain out complaints, sorry, i over reacted, this was just the last straw for me. Ill attempt to be more pleasant in future.

Pathetic.  Just shut the fuck up.  Regardless of what you think, new players are the only chance this mod has of surviving in the long-term.

Remove ANTS so we can manage our games and make them fair ourselves.
