It must have some sort of a catch to it.

You want to talk about a catch...

I am interviewing with a school system tommorow who have been incredibly friendly and willing to work with me to get me employed.

Just did a little research, its over 80% black, which is no big deal, but more importantly over 60% recieve free lunch waivers (ie they fall below the poverty line) and their EOC (End of Course) pass rate in History and Government both fall under 35% percent.

*Shudders* the catch to this job is the fact that the majority of their student population is unwilling to put in the effort to in any way better themselves and are in-fact content to spend their life in the slums...

I have no idea if I have it in me to help these kids Sad

if you did that, you shouldnt be teaching, teaching is a job you have to love to do it. Find a place you want to teach, and work in that place.

Also, I lost a game due to not enough anti-infantry units, so airborne get double damage at each vet level.

More changes to come.

I've always wondered about that, I don't want to sound racist and I'm not racist, but why do certain ethnic groups tend to have such problem with school? Is it because of their culture? Racial prejudice? Environment? Lack of funding? I understand that they don't exactly come from a wealthy background, but why do they have such problems transitioning?

Even at my school, you can always hear talk about other schools with a large population of Blacks and Hispanics being poor in academics. I know not all Blacks and Hispanic lack motivation; I know a few of them myself. They're just as normal as any average person. But why, what is the reason behind the low success rate of some of these schools?

Hell, maybe I'm being fed false information. But I'm just curious why these students have such problems. Is there no remedy for it? Surely it won't take a century for the schools to be modernized.

I often wondered the same thing. When I was younger in kindergarten I was living in a poor area of california, with lots of mexicans, my mom would volunteer to help out with my class, go on field trips and things like that. Well most of the mexican (and no im not being racist, they were mexicans) kids didn't know how to hold a pen right, or write their name and things like that. I had learned more in my pre-school then I did in kindergarten because they were going at such a slow pace because the kids didn't know what to do. When I went to a different school in a better area there were less mexican kids more of a variety actually, asain, white, hispanics, and things moved at a normal pace. So whatever it is, it starts young, I'm guessing it's parents having two jobs, or not being able to spend the time with their kids that they need to at a young age.

Also, I think the reason is most black and hispanic families live in poorer conditions, I'm not going to bother looking up statistics, so I'm going to make my own just to get my point across.

Lets say 80% of black and hispanic families live in poor conditions which results in lower grades. And 50% of whites live in poor conditions, which results in poor grades. So the focus is on the non-whites, even though there is a large percent of whites who are in the same condition. I hope that makes sense. Whites are in the same condition, but less of them, so you don't hear much about it.

My dad's in the army, so I've been to lots of different schools all across the US, and I'll say that I've seen equal amounts of honor roll kids of all races, and kids who get bad marks of all races.

I'm Norwegian, and where i live it is not really alot of foreign people. However, we sort of have our own ghetto outside, in what should be a sub-urb. Anyway, the number of people who fail at that school is 5 times greater. And living conditions are equal too where i live. I do not know what is wrong, but i feel that most people do not dare to say what they mean, because they are afraid of being called racist.

Just my two sentences.

EDIT: Oh and: "Thread derailed!" complete.

I think the answer lies within the school.  Would you really want to go to a school in a poor neighborhood that didnt receive much funding for anything?  That means very limited extracurricular activities such as sports etc.  Books in horrible condition, possibly no heat in the winter or air conditioning in the summer.  Add in gang violence and disruptive students and see how easy it is to learn anything while in a poor school.   Or it could just be a cultural thing as a whole.  I mean who ever says they want to grow up to be a scientist?  Maybe its the media's fault.

Thread is offtopic and I'm not in the mood to try and get it back on topic.

To everyone who posts those stupid pictures; keep it up and I might disable images on the forums all together.
