My girlfriend and I were watching this on yahoo news, and just could not stop being depressed at how bad America must have it's thinking revolving around the boob tube.

Right off the bat the story compares oil companies to that of an old tv show called Dallas (I've never seen this show, but it is some soap opera where the family is in the oil business) the story continues telling you about how much oil costs at the moment and so on, then it talks about oil tycoons... which it then makes a comparison with the character from the movie There Will Be Blood... seriously? Is that the only thing people can relate to? TV and movie characters?

Is it this bad across the pond? Can any European people on here tell of a similar tale? I hope not.

How dare they not even mention the Beverly HillBilly's......

Eh, it is ABC which is owned by Disney so perhaps those two shows are part of some sort of Disney affiliated thing.

Strangely enough, I'm American. Yet this doesn't happen in this household of mine.

If Americans act like this, then am I not an American?

You German Neo-Nazis, French Cowards, Japanese deniers, Switz Bankers, Belgian Belgians (this isn't a typo) and, yes, American TV Idiots...please. Avoid what I'm talking about like a plague.

I really do hate the fools who revolve around TV. But they are a minority in my neighborhood, at least.

It is just what people do on the internet, it's ok to make fun of americans, but bash on another country and six other countries will defend that country and bash on America; I just take this crap with a grain of salt and move on.

I'm sorry riki but with a title like America=TV nation, you had to know that the thread was going to be de-railed more then a train during an earthquake.

I made an assumption before coming in, I read the thread, watched the video, chuckled, and posted. Then acker posted and I just posted my basic overview of how Americans are percieved on the internet. I see it all the time. Everyone wants to make fun of Americans, but god help that person that makes a stereotype of another nation, and we go from being fat americans, to stupid ignorant pigs, that are rednecks ofcourse.... It is sad but whatever I'm not going to try to explain to other people because they don't listen the majority of the time and plus...it's the internet.

How about I just close your thread.

What you see on the Internet doesn't portray what happens in real life.
