Now I know the proper way to use this, but are the effects really working? I notice no accuracy penalties at stuff fired through it. I had it on all of my tanks but it does more or less nothing so I ditched it to save the MU and buy something useful (nades/stickies/mineflail). My question is this: has it been broken and I haven't noticed, or is it really just not that great?

I used to put it on my calliopes, and it didn't seem to do anything...

Smoke turns a few "guaranteed" hits into "misses", I think. However, most AT weapons have such a low scatter angle that the "misses" tend to hit, anyways. That, and most "hits" are actually "misses"+scatter angle.

I used to use it back when there were 3 uses per buy. It occasionally helped my Sherman survive against Panthers for maybe one hit more than usual.

Sherman Smoke does affect infantry weapons, though. You could theoretically use it to mask a rifle advance up to an MG if you lack a mortar due to popcap or something.

that right there is the exact problem with smoke, AT guns have an almost non-existant scatter angle, so most misses end up as hits - With smoke its pretty much just a guaranteed miss which is then an almost guaranteed hit because of the physics engine Smiley

Only works against other tanks and when you stay in it, obviously.
I've had a 'smoked' sherman with 10% health once win against a PzIV because the PzIV missed every shot.

My old 700xp vet 3 sherman also could stand up to Tigers & Panthers when using smoke (& field repairs Tongue)
Even beat a panther! But most of that was because of the 30% health increase. (Sherman vet sucks now)

But wasn't that back when you could sit in the smoke and every shot missed and all of yours hit? Right now it is like I sit in smoke and die, or i pop smoke run away with the smoke masking my retreat and still get hit and die...

No, I'm pretty positive smoke didn't undergo any changes between back then and now.
(Unless they made some in the large OF beta patch)
Guess it would have to be labbed again sometime.

Not sure when the relevant changes were made, but anything that goes through or into smoke should be affected. You don't have to have the smoke on you, you can also have it on them or simply in between (for example if you use mortar smoke which you can place where you want).

In EIR, How much does smoke cost?  Its veyr very cheap liek 45MU.

If you use it liek your suppose meanign you pop smoke and run backwards, They miss EVERY shot.

When i play axis i see it often, and ait creates a smoke sxcreen, mening you can;t sit in it u have to back up, but at the same time you can;t shoot through it...

it forces their hand.. Hav an AB, Ranger, or AT gun bakcing up ur sherman, or maybe a another sherman... Smoke screen, tank chases, and trap sprung.

They changed it in vCOh because peopel would pop smoke, sit in it,a nd with field repair or allied war machine armor was impossible to kill and missing every single shot, while still hitting everyone was excessive.

If you sit in the smoke, you die, if you back up and use the "Smoke SCREEN" as intended, it works fine.

i cant really blame smokaz i mean playing against puddin is like trying to fight off breast cancer. You might win and do it and be a bad ass but you'll feel sick and mutilated forever.

Puddin' spamtm is soulcrushing... what's hard to understand about that?

I am tempted to belive unk0wns; Stay in the smoke for it to work more than a porly typed move behind the smoke...

as stated previously, sherman smoke works as an accuracy modifer and yes, it goes both ways - So if you pop smoke with your sherman and are sitting in the smoke, or behind the smoke then every shot that comes in contact with the smoke gets an enormous accuracy debuff - Shots can still hit because of physics based hits, but yeah.   Currently smoke is 35 for 1 use - it is only useful vs schreks with their now expanded scatter angle, everything else still hits pretty accurately through it just based on physics

I used to take it, then I realized I'd rather have a dozer on my croc which gives +10% health, acts as a shot blocker, and gives heavy crush

where do you get this information on the dozer giving 10% more HP? I always assumed it was one of these COH myths that go around and never believed it to be true. Unless its EIR specific?

"Effect: Equip your M4 'Crocodile' Sherman with the Bulldozer."

"Effect: Lowers the Bulldozer attachment. When engaged the Tank can clear hedgerows, Tank Traps, and other heavy obstacles."

What am I missing? Also this 'shot blocking' is it constant or only when the dozer is down?

As near I can tell, the dozer acts as a shot-blocker so shots that roll misses and will still hit via physics have a chance of being blocked by the dozer, whether its up or down

I have no stats evidence for this, but I play with crocs both ways and I definately get significantly more shots pinging off the dozer than I do the regular
