Sounds like it could be a conspiracy, but hey it could be real, interesting none the less, and if it is real, I want to help stop it.

Net Neutrality is a very debated topic, see here:
http://www.savetheinternet.com/
Basically, the companies and corporations are saying that because of the wear and tear on internet lines, if they were able to tax the companies that they delivered into houses, they would be able to put in better service and better cabling. Naturally, I don't believe that for a second, and it would only truly be used to block competitor websites or slow/block websites that don't pay for service. Basically, with net neutrality the telecom companies are only getting money from the end-user (the people who access websites, like you and me). If net neutrality is taken away, the telecom companies would be free to still get money from the end-user, but would also be able to tax any website that the end-user accesses.

If companies try and do this, any one company that breaks from the norm and keeps the normal internet, they will get all the buissness. I dont think this would be a smart move by ISP providers.

Sounds unlikely, collusion like this would bring the EU competition commission down on them like a tonne of bricks.

That would work actually lmao. If this change actually occurs, (This probably is a definite idea from the ISP's, but its debatable and easily countered) all it will take is 1 guy dedicated to his work to create his own ISP on his own servers, and open his own company, make millions, and shut down all major ISP's.

That won't be as easy as it seems. Most regions only have one or two ISPs. This means they have a monopoly over their own region. In order for an ISP to screw the others up, it would require an infrastructure throughout most of the nation, especially the major cities. In reality, it would actually be a smart move in terms of business because there simply isn't enough competition to keep them from imposing it. This is what happens when cooperations are allowed to monopolize.

Yeah, in this area only one company offers cable internet, and all others are still DSL that isn't too great. We wouldn't have much of a choice in the matter.

In my region I have access to more than 5 DSL Providers, offering speeds up to 70kbit downstream/s or in payable amounts 16k.
At least 2 providers also offer dedicated line connection, and overall they all give reasonable prices and good pings.
I don't see how this change would come true.
Didn't we have this topic back in time though?

Did you know computers were supposed to fry or w/e in the year 2000? ... oh wait, we're still using them. I highly doubt this would happen, let alone in 2012. If companies did charge for accessing certain websites, the amount of illegal activities would probably shoot through the roof: hacking for better internet, fraud, etc. It could potentially cost the companies more for having to regulate, restrict, and attempt to catch those that are out of the predetermined bounds than they would profit from sales (which I think would blow anyways).

I stopped listening at 1:00 in...
C'mon you guys, you sound like a bunch of Russians and Germans crying about the big corporations are out to get you. Here's what you do about it, send a letter to your ISP and tell them to fuck themsevles by including a photograph of your middle finger along with an appropriate letter. Then another ISP will get the idea that hey if everyone else in the "evil capitalist ISP cartel of satanic doom" is giving shitty service, then maybe if I provide real interwebs I will get more customers. The market is self-regulating, you don't need any government to come in and fix it and tell people how to run their business.

You think your gas is fucking expensive? I would kill for a gallon of petrol for $4.50. Over here 1 LITRE is over £1.

Yeah, it's nearly 1.5€ for 1 litres here.
For reference, that's 2.5$ for only 0.25 Gallon Or 10$ for a gallon...
