I feared the day would come when they turned regular cosy forum members into admins who then become real serious about everything. Wish you & salan would've turned down the application, moderating these forums holds no value and actual purpose. Especially not in these times where the entire development team basically said 'fuck it' for now.
Ah well, I can only hope you become sick of it like Akranadas did eventually. Also, the fascisms was clearly a joke (just like these threads), moderation usually harms one's sense of humour I noticed. Is all good though, no hard feelings =).
I'll do ya'll a favour and close it myself soon enough haha.
I believe these forums need moderation, I have always believed these forums needed more moderation then they had. I do not believe in controlling peoples freedom of speech, I do believe in enforcing rules and controlling the blatant disrespectful posting that some people make.
I am more of a moderator then akranadas was ever, even on vent i had many comments that i was a fair moderator because I actively moderated in everyones best interest; even those whom I had to moderate. That said, my goal as a moderator is just to maintain the community, where kolaths goal is more of a maintaining the forums organization.
I will never attempt to keep people happy, nor will I really care if you dislike it. I am a very respectful individual who likes almost every single person I have ever met in the EIR community, but I believe in rules and I believe they maintain the integrity of the community as a hole.
this community means more to me then you may guess, and that includes the interactions on the forums and vent. If dash has an issue with any of the decisions I make I hope he will bring them to my attention and I will adjust myself appropriately.

We do need moderation due to some people heads being so far up their asses they can lick their nose. Topics here all run into off-topic babbles and either should be locked or posts deleted. And freedom of speech is bullshit on the internet if it starts offending people, or causes a topic to become, well, off topic. I hope that the forums will indeed get cleaned up and now that I know we have a mod I will begin reporting posts again.

Moderation should not be a topic of discussion.
Closing the Lisbon Treaty thread though was bullshit.

Maybe if that was the thread title but a title of "Fucking Ireland" is offensive, wrong and fucking stupid.

the fact is a lot of the older guys are angry at the current stalemate in production of eir, they are letting it out as much as they can.
their obvious disdain for the situation is not at all taking into effect that this is an active community that still enjoys what it is doing, regardless of their opinions. They will post as much as they want about it and they will try to sway as many people as they can to their point of view.
I would hopefully call most of them my friends, as I have probably spent more time with a lot of them then I have with people I know in real life.
That said, they need to rethink their angle of attack. the community is not the place for it anymore. They can hate the situation, they can hate the creators, they can even hate the mod. But they will no longer be disrupting the peace on this forum in a disrespectful manner.
I come here because I like the overall picture, and I would like that to be what everyone can enjoy.
the same subjects we discussed endlessly for the same year will recycle with new players, just because we hashed it out endlessly doesn't mean new people won't want to as well.
Lets just all be a bit more respectful and we won't need much moderation at all.

The thread went on for some time. Yes the title wasn't subtle but thats irrelevant. The way it was closed was retarded. Usually, in a community like this, when you disagree with a piece of moderation you pm the moderator and explain why. If you convince them or enough people or state that they feel the thread should have continued they either take your point and re-open the thread or they explain why they feel it cannot be reopened.

akranadas locked the original one as one of his last moves before he left... the second one was hardly on topic and more flaming, and sadly that one NEEDED to be locked.
sorry you dissagreed with it sach, nothing I can do about that part.

But the thread was slowly degrading into a yelling match between people with relevant discussion slowly slipping away.

No it wasn't. Go back and read it again, the thread had improved rather than degraded. Every post on page four was well thought out and it was turning in to a good debate. The only degredation i saw was Unkown's dismissal of a video (hardly a sin) and the final line calling us all retards and then somehow suggesting superiority because someone studied political science.

I realise that. The fact is though it was poor, poor moderation. Not only did it close down a thread, it closed it down on an insult and left half a dozen or so members with an unfinished debate. No one could carry it on in that therad and the implication was that trying to start another one would result in that being closed too. Its hardly suprising it turned it resulted in a bunch of spam and crap.

and ya sach, moderation shouldn't be a topic of a thread, I just made it cuz its a new situation and people obviously already have an opinion.
i'm not going to nazi the message boards. I won't read every thread. I'll read what i normally do and inspect any reports I get handed to me. I'm just interested in a respectful community. they don't have to agree with each other.
but restarted locked threads is definitely not one of those things that will make it through.

Anyway, I am done with this, I've got it out of my system. I would recommned though that any Europeans pay close attention to this issue. In the extrme it could result in the first ever EU member leaving (not inlcuding Greenland).

Hold your horses.
I had nothing to do with that comment, for the record. Nor did I ever intend on showing superiority. I'm only in my first year, I would be a total fool to think that I'm already 'superior' in regards to others when it comes down to politics. Even if it was my last year, I doubt any superiority feelings would be in place. Although the general ignorance & off-topic rambling that was posted in the ireland thread did aggrevate me to the extent that I myself was considering locking it. But then Akranadas did anyway.
In addition, the 'fucking ireland' was to be taken lightly. maybe some people need to chill the fuck down. It's more like a 'fuckin' ireland!' than it is a 'FUCKING IRELAND' if you get my drift.
Whatever.
I also don't see the purpose of having this special thread about my comment. I have yet to see a topic that doesn't run into off-topic rambling or completely irrelevant bullshit. Every balance discussion on this forum somehow runs through a cycle where people also bring up all kinds of irrelevant issues. Akranadas did not often moderate that, because there was no use to doing so. And while you may claim that you will Salan, it shows you're somewhat inexperienced in regards to forum moderation. If you can truly keep it up for months to come, I congratulate you but at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if you stopped giving a shit. It's like bringing water to the sea really. (or whatever the expression is in English)
Anyway, you people take things way too seriously. This is an internet forum for fucks sake, not the freaking United Nations.

lets move on, the situation won't be repeating itself anyways.

I made the topic so you could have an opinion my friend, cuz I felt i needed to respond to the comment and didn't want to do it behind a locked thread.
I doubt I will moderate off-topicness in its entirety unless its being disrespectful or blatant and frustrating those who are ATTEMPTING to keep it on topic. Judgment calls

The second ireland thread was just off-topic rambling, it was closed as well
. Tbh I didn't see a lot of 'hate' & 'disrespect' in either. Although when someone brings up the US in a EU political discussion you're bound to end up in a whole lot of shit, like that thread did.
And the other ones were all joke threads.
I'd love to have a place to discuss politics with some of the people on this forum, I've seen a lot of good & intelligent posts but as long as it's a completely public forum, (meaning everyone with an opinion, regardless of any actual experience or knowledge) I don't see it working out.

You guys no nothing of moderating.
Discussing politics on a board with members who can't resist posting lol cats images every thread is like talking about morality on 4chan. There are forums for discussing things, this isn't one of those forums everything can be discussed in a calm and sensible matter as evident by just about every poster in this forum.
If you could learn how to create threads like this
http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=195615&page=1&pp=20
and discuss it's properly rather than jumping to the inevitable conclusion that is every political thread turning into US vs Rest style threads then that would prove me wrong.
Until that time I'll remain sitting on my throne in my doom fortress with my Iron fist

Yea, you know locking threads because you may not like it really doesn't reflect the community, perhaps it should be based on reported complaints instead of your personal pro-EU feelings
