bah I think a class in High school or College on Symbols/Symbolism and their meanings should be mandatory.  If this was the case, we wouldn't have half of the problems we now have in the world (at least regarding symbols).  Most of this stuff (as I said before) cracks me up.

Honestly if you're offended by it, you could complain to them privately. This is a public forum, and tolerance for free speech should be present. Personally I am not offended by the symbol unless the person who uses it ties it to certain things - namely the holocaust and German war crimes.

There are plenty of Soviet and American war crimes you don't hear about, yet few people are offended by their symbols.

You're right, it is your forum.

However, that doesn't stop anyone from being an opponent to censorship. Personally I am. If someone's got something to say, you might as well let them say it. Tolerance for things starts there - letting things you absolutely hate be said. Nobody has to like it, but it should be able to be done. (written words are always opinions, don't flame). 

But, i suppose the right to say anything stops at the admin's banhammer( paid dictatorship for the lose).  

As long as you don't abuse it I don't think anyone will complain, but I've seen some seriously over the top moderators, hopefully it doesn't come to stuff like that.

To my knowledge we have yet to edit a post or even give a warning to a user.  I'm all for free speech and was simply making a point.  That said, I don't think I'd like to see a swastika banner posted all over the site, even if it's in someone's signature.

Maybe I could get a picture of a black man hanging from a tree with the KKK surrounding him for mine.  Would that be appropriate?

Depending on one's moral values, maybe, but to most of us probably not.

To me, however, a black man hanging from a tree with KKK members surrounding him is much more visual and graphic than the swastika is. In any case you're probably right.

I think people should actively avoid using symbols of hatred.  If history does not sway you, respect should.

By the way, it's not a symbol of hatred, people have made it out to be that. It's a symbol of a political party who's members didn't necessarily hate Jewish people, but were in it to stay alive. So, in essence, the name Hitler is a symbol of hatred.

History is all about hatred, which, in many cases got quite a few people a long ways....until they died.

Depending upon which standpoint you take, the swastika will become either offensive to you, or be just another symbol.

If you look at it from the view that it represents the Nazi party at that time, then i doubt you'd find it entirely offensive. If you interpret it more liberally and make it symbolic of things DONE by head officials of the Nazi party at that time, then you will likely find it offensive.

I personally wouldn't say i found the Democrat's donkey offensive if i didn't like their policies or beliefs, but i would if it was a symbol of some (morally) insane acts.  Same thing goes for the swastika.  The thing has become associated with the acts of head officials, and the holocaust than anything else. Partly due to a massive wave of negativity that is picked up by even the youngest of children. If you showed a fourth grader the swastika, they'd probably know what it was, but they'd tell you most of what they know quite simply: its a bad symbol.

No arguing it isn't a "bad symbol" for some, depending on how they view it.

In any case i agree with dash now after having thought. It will merely provoke more arguments and discourage people to play, so it's a good idea not to tout the thing about.

I'm a little confused. You have no problems playing a game based on WW2, but a tiny symbol like that "offends" people? Don't make me laugh =)

I'd use the same logic too, but then I'd be a racist and an anti-semetic. That's really how badly the swastika is associated with the holocaust and racial beliefs of the party.

Regardless of any of our points, the symbol is merely going to provoke people (such as those on the other side of the argument at the moment) and is a bad idea in general.
