Lately I've been thinking about the problem of EIR without its developers.  Here is the basic outline of what I came up with.  Comments/suggestions/other is appreciated.

1: PHP server/MySQL database

- Available for pretty much every free hosting service you can think of.
- PHP script is concerned solely with validating inputed data and serving client's data requests
- MySQL holds your company info + battles
- Old Battle files are also indexed
- (PHP script may also serve client's chat requests if a lobby is added to the client)

2: Flex Rich Internet Application
- Pretty front end
- Runs on all major browsers, uses flash runtime
- Contains all functions of the current launcher and website + (chat?)
- Easy to incorporate other flash-based stuff such as a warmap

3: Client side Installation
- Program installed with the mod
- Written w/ no gui
- Is given instructions from the Flex app by using a custom protocol eir: that is inserted into the browsers on the client's computer
- (Gives the browser feedback by altering the url fragments??)
- Handles extracting and installing battle files and updating
- Also provides methods for the browser to start EIR
- (uses corsix's dll to compile battle files in situ to save bandwidth??)

4: The Mod
- Written in scar + all your standard EIR stuff
- First emulate EIR, then improve it

You want to mod EIR so that you can continue EIR without the devs or something?
Sounds good. You should join The Last Stand Wink.

indeed. the problem that I'm having, and the reason why I'm posting is that at the moment im looking at learning many, many new things.  It is certainly possible, but it would take a really long time.

Things to learn:

PHP
SQL query language (bitch is my bitch now)
MXML
(know actionscript)
(get better at c)
SCAR + LUA
(Get corsix 2 tell me how to use his .dlls for reporting and making sgas)
RGD + all your custom EIR goodness
DOM scripting for firefox and IE

However, unlike FL-, I believe that more is better for development and in this case, if people are willing to help this is good

He wants to emulate EIR but it's a huge job and he'll likely need help.

I already asked Phil, if I could help with the website. He said they don't really want to let many people in.

Not much point in helping them now when there's no development happening. Emulation ftw.
