 Angry Angry Angry

Okay, so my computer won't turn on. Last night the stupid thing woke me up in the middle of the night by turning on all of the sudden, probably for defragging or something (it does this all the time, but usually its @ 6-9 a.m., times i set when i'm not home). Well, I'm tired and don't bother to look at the problem so i just turn the power off on the back of the computer.

Now I'm back, the day after, and the stupid computer won't start. I've tried everything.

The mobo LED light is on. Pressing the power, however, results in no results. The power LED and light and power switches are all connected. Nothing happened besides me pressing power off then turning the power back on today.

On opening the computer today, though, it smelled a little weird. Like, not a coppery-smell when you computer overheats, but more like some 'o shit something bad happened' smell. Like a burn smell, i guess.

Any clue on how i can fix this without having to buy a 4th new psu?

If you need an incentive to help me, think about it this way: As soon as my computer is fixed, axis start losing again!

Uh what looks charred. Does it give any beeps during BIOS? Or does it not even reach that?

Yeah carefully examine the computer for any signs that something is fried. Also find the source of the smell, its probably the PSU, but it could be anything.

Most likely PSU. Do you have another computer you can interchange parts with to test if it's the PSU?

Pressing power does nothing. So, it doesn't POST, or hell, doesn't even hit the first bios splash screen.

The only other psu available is a 300w psu. My 500w psu has fried a few times in the past and I've just been getting free replacements from raidmax (can't remember, think it was them, produced the psu i'm using that is total utter shit) every time it dies. Was just the fuse before. I don't remember the smell.

Well, at least now I'll end up buying a new psu. Maybe something that actually has a 6-pin and enough 4-pin molexes for me to hook up all my components (i shut off my comp and plug the other part in and unplug something I'm not using when needed lol. Usually its the card reader/cd or dvd drive/other).

Oh well. Sad. I was saving up for a car lol... o well I was going cheapo with the car anyways (1k-2k $) I'm sure a $100 psu isn't that bad...any recommendations on a 750w psu with at least 2 6-pins, or preferrably, so I don't have to replace it for 10 years, wiith 2 6-pins and 2 8-pins? Under 100 bucks, plz.

My advice buy a PSU from a good company for the extra money if any often they are cheap. Because good PSU's last a long time also unless you are running crossfire you really only need 700w max

these seem to be good
