Well as many of you probably know and hate my computer, I am finally getting a new one (hopefully). I'm just going to get something cheap that I'll be able to upgrade over time. So if you think you could mabye help in listing some parts or any good deals then post here. Right now Dell is offering me a very good deal, I even checked the parts and everything.

Not really, but i'd avoid dell at any cost. Their computers will not last you and will most certainly fail you.

what are you going for here?  raw CPU power for work etc. or a gaming specific rig?   Do you have any parts that are salvageable from your current CPU such as Power Supply (if so, what is it rated at) - do you need a new monitor? what type of input does your current monitor take?

I think there are lots of us here who would love to see you with a new computer Need that info tho before one can be built for ya

Well the one they are offering is nothing special, the main thing I was looking for was being able to upgrade over time. But the computer I'm running now Skunker is a Dell and it's served me great I have to say. It runs great for it's age.

I'd say ask them if you can get at least a 2600XT(in exchange for a couple gigs of ram and/or Windows XP instead of Vista maybe?)

Are you looking for prebuilt computers or are you fine with putting together a computer from parts? One of the few things people usually forget is that they need an OS with their computer, so if you have a XP/Vista disc then you might as well build a one from selected parts. Otherwise, you're better off buying a pre-built computer and going on from there.

Give us the specs of your old computer as well. There might be some parts salvageable.

Most store bought machines are more than enough for gaming once you add a video card.

I would go with an orange hamster for the PSU. Faster then the white ones but not as quick as the black ones. I see the orange ones best for a budget rig.

Remeber though that you'll have to stick with ATI cards and I'm clueless on which ones are good (I'm an NVIDIA guy).

Rofl. Dell sells Chinese orange hamsters, they have an exotic feature in their metabolism that allows them to fail after a few months of good usage, thus rendering the average PC user dumbfounded and having them return to dell to purchase ANOTHER cheap hamster-powered computer.

Bah, now a days making a good gaming computer is rather cheap. I got 2GB RAM, 8800GTS 512MB G92, AM2+ MoBo, Athlon x2 6000+, 500W PS, $450. If I didn't already have the case, DVD-Rom, and HDD, it would've cost probably around $550. Then for Windows it would've cost $650. Bam, a computer than can run CoH, WiC, obviously HL2, Oblivion, etc. on 1280x1024 with everything on highest and 8x AA.

When it comes time to upgrade, I'll buy another X280, and when Quad Core technology comes into use, a Phenom.

4gig of ram on a 32 bit OS makes no sense, 32bit only supports 3.2 gigs

Not with the latest service pack on vista.

Also, that graphic card is made of utter fucking fail.
You should have at least one that comes close to the 8800 series. (ATI has a good new & cheap midrange card)
Dell always seems cheap and good but then it completely fails due to the low quality. To give you an example, just because it sais 4 Gigs doesn't mean you'll effectively get the performance of 4 gigs, a lot depends on the brand. (Corsair FTW)
