Hello all.  First of all, I'd like to thank you for keeping the mod alive, second of all, I plan on giving a few select members access to the EIR database so that cost adjustments can be made.  This will be followed by information on .RGD editing, then possibly even .SCAR.  Though we'll cross that bridge when we get there.  I first want to do only mySQL and see how it goes.

Please nominate people to be in charge of cost balance here...

Salan - I would say just about everyone trusts him and he's already done alot for the community.

*FRENETIC JUBILANCE*

*happy*  Cheesy Grin Cheesy

Better nominate some people yourself that do the nominations, if everyone knows the balance team, there will be flaming again.

And yeah, salan for sure.
Didn't even think about him in the first place, thought that was set. Wink

Honestly, Salan is the only one I would trust not to adjust prices based on whether he wins or loses games....

I'd gladly help where I can for sure,  and I think having secret people do it causes more problems then it ever solves .. Just gotta make sure who ever is helping has thick skin to ignore the community gripes in the first place and just do the job.

Aye, Salan is the man for the job. Also, I agree that secret balance teams are a poor idea because it seperates the developers/balance team from the actual community itself.

Pengu would also be another potential candidate but I am unsure if he's up for the job.

I'm not sure a popularity contest is the right way to do this but it's true Salan is generally the best man for the job Wink.
Ucross would've never gotten selected for the balance team if it was about popularity, and he generally did a good job regardless :p.

Before anyone 'votes' for me, I do agree with unknowns point that a popularity contest it shouldn't be.

This is progressing the mod, there is a lot to it beyond simple pricing.. Dash has had a lot of trust in people who have made him feel that it was misplaced.  It reminds me of a boss I once had. he said to me on my hiring day ' we'll give you all the rope you want, if you hang yourself with it, thats your choice, we hope you build a bridge though.'

as far as the idea of balancing, if you guys honestly think of me as a good choice, here is the one thing I instantly see as a potential change that would effect a lot of the current balance, note on the bold type.

Quote
one of the interesting points about balancing through price... you need to first understand what you are trying to achieve... in my opinion the main thing we see with how eir runs is the imbalance between infantry blobs and lack of tanks at the end game

an infantry company running 2 shermans, 1 croc and 1 howitzer is disproportioned to 34 riflemen... and those are the few things you can fix with pure pricing balance.

Spam is only slightly fixable because if you over price something to much it becomes worthless and never used at all..  anyways...  sadly that always needed an availability system that worked, or a pricing scheme that worked to cause availability through incrementation.

To refine the bold text, medium tanks specifically.

I want to add the the persons (and I'd prefer it be 2-3 people) would be under my confines and control... Sure you can make changes without me, but ultimately if I see something amiss, you will be 'dismissed'...  That mainly goes for the release of control...

I've heard rumors of a group of players attempting to emulate EIR, which I'm fine with so long as it's not an emulation but their own creation... in this regard I have to be careful with whom my code is given.

I'd vote Salan and The TLS team as more of a "Price Editing Council" They show:
1. They care for the mod.
2. They are responsible.
3. Its better to have a couple people from both sides. Such as two from axis&two for allies. More of an organization. So not one person fucks it up(not subjecting you Salan), so there is a council I guess you could say.

**Edit Fl- if you'd want someone who's around EIR alot I wouldn't mind volunteering If anyone would like to nominate me to help.

I'll do it. No thanks. Cheesy

I'd say gamerandy, salan and unknown. Apex aswell if he doesn't have his hands full with Eastern front mod.

you know for all the gruff unknown gets, (he does deserve some of it -- as a player) he's not to hard to work with and is more dedicated to this mod then almost anyone would think.

I'd be fine doing minor cost/balance changes with that group of people - Unknown and i tend to bounce off each other well and Salan often plays moderator, this has been very true during the TLS campaign.
