Can you win w/o real tanks? Find out how to take advantage of company composition assumptions here. Battle #102

This game is notable for the most effective demo charge evar.

KABOOM

Also: a leet envelopment of the center axis position.

Oops sorry, edited for battle #.

SPOILER ALERT!::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Well lets just say it's possible :-P. The axis had a Tiger and 2 PIV, quite a few stormies, it was blitz/defensive vs armor/infantry.

I had 3 ATGs in my company and Shoe had 2. I had riflemen for my infantry some with bars, and stickies. I also had a calliope and a quad which didn't do much (the quad that is)

Shoe had rangers and riflemen and we both had a several hmgs and mortars.

Although we took more casualties the Axis had more expensive units (for the most part), although we were accused of 'spam' I actually though we did alright and wasn't till about the end where I had all my mortars and mgs on the field (3 of each) that I felt it was a little crazy.

We were able to deal a good blow early thanks to a great demo charge by Shoe, a couple of calliope barrages and some coordinated attacks pushed em to their 'base'.

One we had them there, we consolidated our position (and AT guns since we had already seen at least 1 PIV and a Tiger.

The axis did a good job of trying to flank us on our left side but we were able to counter with our combined arms in a timely manner although did take heavy losses on both sides. The Tiger got a little too aggressive late game and while it's infantry support went off to take care of something else I was able to finish it off with an AT gun (it had already been hit quite a few times before then)

Overall I was pretty happy with the way me and shoe played and coordinated or at least talked to each other about what was going on and what to do. There were times when I would fire mortar smoke to cover his wire cutting or barrage/mortar an area so he could charge in his rangers which I thought he made good use of.

With our lack of real tanks we knew ahead of time we would have to use our AT's very well and I thought we did pretty good although we did wind up losing 2 of them I believe (although we were able to steal some pak38's later).

The Axis made a few mistakes which I think cost them the game, and I believe the amount of expensive units is what enabled us to keep using our basic infantry (even though we lost more) and win the attrition battle.

Overall I thought it was a well fought game with several nice pushes and some interesting tactics, along with a great wiring strategy on the left side of the map.

Was a great game indeed, some great back & forth fighting and intensive moments.
HMG + At gun is really a winning combination Smiley.

I said spam but didn't really mean it that way Tongue.
Just felt you guys sure were fielding alot of AT & HMGs, and it was a winning combination unfortunately. But then again we axis didn't get to play out the game as expected. Cozmo did pretty good as well, just a pity he ran out of troops a tad too early! Smiley
