We won't be switching riflemen with picked up weaponry to another squad type (ie Riflemen -> Rangers).  All non sync-weaponry, well be lost at the end of the battle.  Sync weaponry, like the mortar, MG, AT Gun, etc... it depends on what's possible in how we program it.  It is planned that if the original squad is lost, and you re-crew it.  You will still have an HMG but only with the amount of experience the new crew has gained.  This is due to the way the system work in COH.

I don't think it does make sense.  A BAR without appropriate ammo or parts is useless to the axis, much like a panzerfaust would be to the allies.  In my opinion it is quite reasonable to receive no benefit other than the temporary in game use of such a weapon.

Sorta off topic but lets say my engineers pick up an at weapon. Is there any way to have them drop the weapon in game.

Well, if the BAR was captured in war, I'm willing to bet that ammo /other stuff could also be captured by the germans if they won the battle. Besides this, a well-kept gun lasts long enough so that spare parts becomes a non-issue. For an extreme example of this, look at what the germans did with Sten guns and PPSH-41s (the germans rebarreled PPSHs to 9mm, I think).

Both the Allies and the Axis used captured artillery pieces and AT guns. Of that much I am sure of.

As I said before, if someone wants a example of a belligerent nation using captured weapons, look at America in Vietnam (they frequantly used captured AK-47s) or Finland in WWII.
