The Hummel actually is better.

*It _is_ more accurate, except at very long range. We've run that around a few times. I haven't checked ingame in ages but I'm pretty sure it's true.  Stats-wise, it has 100% accuracy and the Priest does not.

The stats are WRONG.  Boot up cheat mod, watch my replay.  Hummel has worse accuracy and a bigger spread even when its closer to the target.

The 100% accuracy is wrong, because the barrage has innate scatter.

Quote
*The Hummel does 300 damage (NOT 200) on a direct hit and penetrates ALL armor.  It's splash penetration is also better than the Priest, making it pretty damn good against tanks.

So does every howitzer in the game.  All howitzers including the priest do 1.5x damage at the short range aoe.  Priests do 300 damage on hits too.

Hummel is better at killing tanks. So freaking what?  I get a hummel to kill support weapons and infantry, not tanks.  Unless your opponent is stupid tanks are never stationary and you cannot hit a moving tank with a howitzer piece that takes 7 seconds to fire the first shell.

Quote
*The Hummel does 100 damage at its maximum radius of 6, enough to kill any infantry. It is very deadly.

*The Priest only does enough damage to ensure infantry gibs at a radius of 3.  It does 60 damage (enough to gib volks and severely injure tougher infantry) at a radius of 7.

Its a trade off, hummel does more damage within its splash radius, priest has a bigger splash, and 60 damage is pretty crippling to everything, even KCH.

Quote
That said it still might cost too much.

Which is what I've been saying the whole time.  Hummel should not cost freaking 135 more fuel than the priest.

^ yeah, i never understood the high fuel cost, fuel is a huge thing for the PE. More than likely in my pe account i 'll prolly go for lvl 2 fuel maybe even lvl 3 since i alwyas end up with lots of extra mp.

Dafuq man, don't ask for proof if you'll refuse it if it's not in your favor, logic fallacy for the bloody win.

The Priest gets the damage multiplier, but it doesn't matter because of the damage penalty which knocks the damage back down to 225.  Then there are the penetration problems.

Still, I kill/hurt armor with allied artillery all the time.  You just have to pick your moment.  The Hummel is simply that much better at it.

Tradeoff pfft. In artillery terms an infantry kill is much more important than injury.

The accuracy is futzy, but the Hummel is accurate.  That's what causes the overshoot effect, and (I'm guessing, I don't have time to go ingame atm) the overshoot effect is what's causing the Hummel to 'miss' in your test.

The hummel I had bought in pre-0.0.4 decided to not hit the target at all, even though it was within the yellow circle and being spotted on throughout the entire barage - only the last shot hit the target(which was an ATG). Maybe my hummel had a faulty gun or something, gonna write a letter to my sturmsfuhrer to commission me a new one.

In all honesty, hummel fails beyond fail, it should cost at most 2/3rds what a priest costs. Slower, incapable of self-defence, poor accuracy, shells fired and shitty, mortar-like range...
Useless.

You have to target in front of it to compensate for overshoot

Yes, after my vet 3 hummel was killed by just 2 Counterbattery shots I gave it up aswell.
What it really needs is a received damage reduction OR more health when its vetted.
It dies to 3 tetrach shots.

Btw, does lockdown make a hummel somewhat equal in range and recharge to the priest, or superior?

Lockdown makes hummels fire a bit further, and with less time inbetween shells(almost equal to priest).

The recharge time stays the same.

nerf price and we'll be good. Its just too low, same armor as priest and fires only 4 shots, so its not a good saturation artillery, more a precsion artillery and not even that sometimes as it doesn't hit when youwant it to lol

You know Artillery is more accurate if a unit has los to the target.

Get the Blitzkrieg package for PE hummels and use stormtroopers to spot the target.

It would actualy make sence, piotrskivich, if the goddamn hummel fired any more accurate if it had LOS.
It doesn't matter if it's within the yellow circle AND with LOS throughout the barrage, it just fails at hitting the target no matter.

Sad I really thought it was true, I seem to be very wrong today. Just like in the AT gun discussion I fail.  Undecided

It's ok mate, it's only the hummel that negates the standard rules of using arty in CoH... Hummel sucks ;(.

hummel is actually fine...maybe lower the penetration of tetrach against a hummel slightly...

the price or cooldown of the other artillery need to go up and calliope need some weakness (speed/armor)

artillery need to become more a tactical role than an "i'm a noob and until i l2p lets shell them to death"
or "i've no glue how to counter my opponent...o wait i bomb him until he run out of stuff"

the most important thing is that it wont be possible to 'spam' arty when they come out
then it will be easier to balance things.

i just like artillery personally...normally it's my "omg he's got too much support stuff and i cant' break thru" weapon. If like say, my opponent never brings out a mortar, or doesn't spam hmgs, you'll prolly nevr see my howie or hummel but since there are points where you need artillery to break thru at times, i use it. Every side needs some form of artillery, be it light, medium or heavy. it's not a noob weapon. I'm sure you use mortars dick, or nebels or stuaks right?
