Just got home so couldn't get to reading all of it but let me make some things clear:
1. You KNOW Lolto is not a part of the map team any more, you also know Kolath is not running the show any more. Making a big fuss over some silly outdated forum title seems like a waste to your keyboard's life expectancy. That being said, we have addressed it now. I'm just saying next time you could just make a post: 'Hey why does it still say Lolto is map team lead' and be done with it.
Thanks for reminding us though
2. Yes I am running the mapping show, I have added LOADS of maps for people to download in these last few months, unfortunately however some of you can't grasp the concept of things like 'bandwidth restraints' and 'waiting hours to update to the latest version because of 20+MB maps.'
Honestly there really is absolutely no reason anyone could possibly complain about a lack of quality map choice at this very moment, especially not if you know where EIR came from in terms of map support.
I wield my powers with EIRRmod's full blessing, until he tells me otherwise I will continue acting the way I do. I'd also like to remind you that I have to spend quite some time on unpacking, viewing and if applicable fixing, testing & uploading a lot of the maps people submit (even after reaching quality standards some people still manage not to get it right
) . We can NOT afford to simply upload every map people throw at us, if you want us to add your work to our mod you will have to follow a set amount of quality standards and your map will have to be in pretty much a final stage. (Loading screen, map preview image, etc) This may be 'just a mod', but when it comes to my responsibilities I prefer to act with a certain amount of professionalism.
I'm sorry but it's a cruel world, if you can't accept (especially your early) work being criticised and/or shot down as a mapper you will probably never turn out to be a good mapper in the first place. And that goes for more than just mapping.
3. Out of ALL people Duck or Die you have the least right to complain about anything when it comes to maps to be honest. We greatly appreciate your work, I really mean this, you have the highest amount of contributions currently in the official auto updated map list and you have hundreds of people playing your maps every week. Let's face it, in the end you're just complaining because we don't automatically update and add every map you throw at us.(But neither will OMG or any other mod out there)
Even well settled mappers still have to follow the same quality standards as everyone else, and I'm sorry duck but there's no such thing as a perfect mapper who only delivers perfect maps.
4. It is REALLY not hard for you people to download a map manually once in a while, we all used to download maps manually but now that there's an auto updater you suddenly expect that everything will get served to you on a gold plate? We are actively supporting alpha/beta maps by throwing them in the .module, all you then have to do is download one file to then put it into your EIR/archives folder.
As a mapper it is also a part of your responsibility to promote your work, get people to play your work, provide them with a download link and usually they'll be happy enough to give it a try. When these people provide feedback, it also helps us in determining whether or not your map should be made available through the auto-updater ASAP.
I have yet to see a thread where multiple people make a complaint about a good map not getting added to the auto-updater. If a lot of people are unhappy about the state of maps they should speak up and they will be heard.
5. Lastly and somewhat unrelated but justified since the entire OMG dev team is present the moment someone dares mention their name: I have to admit that I very much regret your entire 'exclusive' system. If you're familiar with the Prisoner's dilemma there's really no arguing that cooperation is much better than selfishly pushing your own interests. We at EIR have decided to take a high road by not 'encouraging' (offering them dev positions and full insight into the development cycle) talented mappers to limit their own already limited audience. Unfortunately however this is putting us at a disadvantage as you've been allowed to fish in two ponds at once while we are not. You'd probably only understand if we would start pushing our own exclusive map system with similar benefits to 'encourage' loyalty. Only then would you understand that working together benefits both much more than both being selfish does.
At the end of the day all mappers still belong to the same COH mapping community and it's very regrettable that you would push for such a selfish and solitary approach. I still can not understand, past gripes with the old EIR staff excluded, why any sane mapper would want himself to be limited to a smaller audience when there's another similar sized audience willing to enjoy your work as well.
I also can't understand why we can't just get along and share maps.
Hello, my name is Lolto.
When determined that you have reached a certain level of quality maintained within your map structure (as in your maps are not shit), then I will approach you and inquire as to whether or not being a part of a highly organized and proficient development team would be of any interest to you.
Upon hearing your most positive and exciting response, you would be incorporated into the development process for which the Operation Market Garden team works under. As part of the exclusive map team for Operation Market Garden, you would be given access to top secret information and be expected to remain confidential while being a part of the development team at Operation Market Garden.
Operation Market Garden offers exciting new opportunities for upcoming and promising mappers, if you would like to be a part of a rewarding and friendly development process which only Operation Market Garden can provide. Then please, submit your best maps for review and play testing over at Operation Market Garden and if you have what it takes to be the best, then you will enjoy being a part of the best mapping team in Company of Heroes.
This sums up my point entirely. You're probably been approaching mappers that have made maps for EIR but are willing to share their work with you OMG chaps (since we don't encourage nor desire to encourage 'loyalty' or any form of exclusivity), then promising then 'fancy development positions in your mod' IF they agree to making all further projects exclusive to OMG. (Let's face it, that's pretty much what it comes down to in the end, I doubt you people can honestly say you would appreciate someone on YOUR dev team making maps for both mods.) I mean really, can you not see how this is an unsportsmanlike, borderline immature way of running things? Oh what fun we would have if both mods were doing this. This is not the fucking corporate world where money can be made by in effect by 'draining workforce' from other companies.
Settle your gripes with the old EIR and fldash in some other way please, this is in my personal opinion not a very respectable way of running your mod.
Locking this thread now as it has very little to do with EIR vs OMG maps. I think it was pretty clear they just wanted you to edit your map description for your OMG version. Feel free to start a new thread over 5. if you want to.
No offense to anyone intended by the way.
