Part of the process is giving them 1 win to build upon, the guys I pick up usually have like 5 - 20 stats or 0 - 4 like this guy. If they don't see play that wins games or tactics that keep you packing ingame, how will they know what this looks like.

Yelling at your teammate aside, hehe, playing with someone well above your skill level can definitely be an eye opener on how to better do things. It's also helpful if they are on vent and you can just explain to them some shortfalls that they can quickly fix such as call-ins and proper counters and just general advice as some of it differs from vCoH.
I would argue that it's impossible to teach micro, but strategy and decision making is a big part of the game as well. For new players, and players with lesser skill, I often find it's infinitely better on teaching them how to avoid mistakes, and win the battles where they can. I find that once they get over the stage where their shit just gets demolished, it's easier for them to focus on attacking and pressuring as the basics of CYA (covering your ass) become second nature. It's hard to attack when you don't know how to defend/support your units.
I also can't argue much against negative reinforcement, sometimes you gotta use it to get folks to listen and to not do certain things again, obviously you should mix it in with positive and neutral comments, but I think it has it's place. Then again I'm prior military so I'm likely biased.
I'm glad you guys pulled off the win, hopefully there were some lessons learned.

I didn't really yell at him as he wasnt replying either in vent or team chat for 90% of the game, the quote was more a poetic representation of my mind during play! I'm sure a lot of Driver's License teachers..
Giving up or ragequitting with a player you are trying to help learning the game is the most fail at all, imo.
90% of the stuff they need to learn first is to have a good system for their company, to understand when to bring what and correctly sized population on their callins.. and to FLANK mg's. Doesn't COH campaign teach that? I've never played it, anyone know? xD
At any rate, you can't teach a guy to turn his mg's in time or have his paks redeploy before the armor comes up or the flank. However you can explain to a player why keeping a shrek around the pak is a good idea and how to flank a mg.

The players which can't keep up with the pace of the game (and turn a pak or HMG in time) are possibly the best form of noob : their retarded mistakes will just go away as they play the game, gaining experience.
The ones that just can't realise how to flank (AKA common sense) are the bad form of noob - they'll listen to you, say they understood everything, but still do the exact same mistakes in 20 games... They're just frustrating.
