Demo is releasing in a few hours, digital release is August 7th. (14th for most stores I believe)
I'll be purchasing my copy on Impulse since Steam sucks.

Anyone else thrilled for this awesome sequel?

Imo it's one of the best WW2 strategy games out there as you really get to 'recreate' history your way. What if Hitler wasn't a tool and didn't invade Russia?Full control over military, diplomacy, intelligence, production, politics, etc.

The learning curve is pretty steep so hang in there because once you fully grasp the basic and advanced mechanics that this game offers you will be having TONS of fun.

I'm particularly looking forward to multiplayer, even HOI 2 MP was amazing despite the various flaws (game desyncs, crashes, ...)

I'm going to buy it in store the day it comes out!
I really love this game, I have played HoI 2 Doomsday a lot and this is the number one game I want!

About the learning curve, they said that HoI 3 going to be easier to get into, but even harder to master. Hope they succeeded with it!

The game is even Swedish! Tongue

It's very fun but there are some bugs and issues. It's basically suffering the same teething problems Empire Total War had, but they'll probably be fixed soon.

Playing the big nations like Germany or USSR is far too easy.  For a challenge, try playing poland on hard and survive the war. Cheesy

Russia ALWAYS declares war on Germany in this game, just a matter of time, really.  Right now I'm struggling against them as Germany because I only have about 12 or so divisions spread out across the old Polish and Finnish lines, though I have about 30/40 divisions of Infantry, M/H Armored and Fallschirm. divisions coming in to help, all the way out from western France.  It seems like port strikes are a little OP from bombers, though, I've lost a whole flotilla of Light Cruisers and transports from just a few strikes without realizing what was going on at first.  Some nations that join certain alliances make it a little weird, especially things like Switzerland joining the Allies.

And I gotta say, the Italian army is a huge joke in this game.  Somewhere near Napoli I pushed off about 3 divisions of Italian troops with just a few brigades of Fallschirmjaegers, after they got absolutely destroyed by French forces, then Austrian/German after they switched sides.  They are currently back on Axis, with their capital now for some reason located in North Africa.  The Maginot line, however, seems to be replicated nicely, I couldn't move into France until I took out Switzerland, Belgium, and Holland to move through the flanks; frontal assault was impossible there.

Naval engagements are pretty good, especially when you research the corresponding tech to fairly advanced levels.  Escort carriers seem to not need to have CAGs loaded onto them, but when you go to build them, it asks if you want to build them together?  I also found out that ships take MUCH longer to build than they did in HoI2.  Almost 3 years for BBs and BCs.

Air combat is pretty lackluster, though, at least, with counters it is.  The unit just sits there doing its air patrol, and on top of that, the air patrol doesn't move to any other provinces.

And if anyone can find out how to research RADAR, that'd be great if you could tell me, I currently have no idea where it is.

well researching radar was a waste of time in the previous versions of HOI.

Radar is in industry. Put your mouse over it, it tells you the prerequisites.

And if you're getting rolled by Russia you're doing something wrong. I have well over 400 brigades and its 1943. The only thing holding me back is manpower. Russia won't attack you if your borders are manned. With about hard 10 divisions you can reach far enough into Russia to do serious damage to the organization of their frontline. This is actually the main issue I have with the game, you can blitzkrieg your way to victory through anything, just have one engineer brigade with tanks and mechs. And airdropped infantry are pretty hard to stop (at least for the AI). It just takes 9 divisions to conquer england, due to the fact that transports can drop so many of them so quickly, in HO2 you needed to spend considerable amount of IC in many transports, or wait for them to recharge their organization completely.

Ports strikes are not overpowered, it just means you have to defend your ports with air superiority, or not sit your fleet in one place until the AI figures they're worth taking out.

Use air superiority instead of intercept if you want your air units to patrol around, on intercept they just rush to engage whatever is detected. I don't say how air combat is any different in HO3 than HO2 (beside different multipliers).

All in all though the behavior of other countries is affected by yours. The Italy in my German game is rolling across Africa with no problem, maybe because I conquered Gibraltar (I don't know if holding straits stops enemies from using them like in Ho2).

Best game of the summer for sure. I'm just sad they detached themselves from history a bit more to make the game more flexible, and also removed a lot of interesting extra information.

Maple, did they cut down/out events?  Whats the last line mean?  I haven't picked it up yet, so I'm curious.

only if you have tons and tons of spare time.  When I play with my buddies, a campaign is around 50 hours.
