Like, why didn't they strap wikius down before attempting to cut him open, or even sedate him?
They were trying to. Remember they were *attempting* to fit that oxygen mask onto him before he went crazy and kicked ass? And, yes, he was strapped down pretty tightly.
That said, I don't think that effective sedation was on the top of their minds, sedation is only necessary if you want your subject to live, not come out in a body bag. Look at Unit 731 (Japanese biochemical research unit in WWII), sedation was forgone in quite a few *involuntary* vivisections because the chemicals involved could interfere with the information received*. Frankly, I'm surprised they even tried to sedate him.

Why didn't they just use the RPGs on the walker to begin with?
I didn't think they knew what the walker could do. They were trying to recover the pilot alive, blowing his ass up would not have made their superiors happy. Lots of money wasted for nothing...bad for business.
When they used the RPG, they weren't aiming for him, either. They took down the walker with heavy small arms fire for the most part. But by that time, the last remaining "fook you" guy was so angry he didn't care about recovering him alive.
*They'd infect Allied POWs with improved versions of the Black Death, then dissect the POWs to see how the disease spread throughout the body. And yes, no anesthetic, and living prisoners. Given this man's importance the MNU...

He was strapped down, he used his superhumanly strong alien arm to break the restraints.

Why didn't they just fill the body bag full of sedatives?
Why didn't he just break out of the bag?
Why was he calm throughout the whole weapon firing process, yet before was batshit crazy when they were taking him from the hospital to MNU?

Why did they need to? He clearly couldn't (and didn't) break out of the two-layer bag. He was needed for weapon testing, anyways, and they didn't plan on the involuntary-zapping-thing as a primary measure. Sedatives might have, once again, messed up vivisection.

Why didn't he just break out of the bag?
He didn't know his life was in danger yet. He had no possible way of knowing he was heading towards a scheduled dissection. Plus, there were lots of heavily-armed guards around him. Once he knew his life was certainly in danger on the operating table, adrenaline (and developing alien superpowers) kicked in, with the according results.

"Calm" is a very strange word to label his condition, especially after the baton shocking thing. "Traumatized" would be a better description. He certainly lost it again when they pulled out the alien for weapons testing. Plus, he had quite a bit of time to...reflect...on the situation, body-bag ride and all. People can't be batshit crazy all the time, they get exhausted eventually.
I don't know about you, but I'd be batshit crazy if an unidentified squad of goons armed with rifles tried to kidnap me without a verbal explanation. Especially if there was a possibility of help around me. Like a hospital full of civilians.

The guy who fired the rockets was the last MNU guy alive, but instead of getting the automated missile turrets to fire on the ship, he decided to use an RPG. I'm not sure what you mean by 'they used helicopters and what not to get them down.'
Because the automated missile turrets already fired, and if I'm not mistaken the power suit shot all his rockets into the automated turrets and those other guys.

There are a ton of problems with the movie's story, but seeing as it's a sci-fi movie about aliens, you accept some of them. Some of them however were kinda silly.
I have an issue with the overall plot, seriously they skim over it so fast, just because when you think about it, it makes you lawl. I mean they basically get stuck here cause they run out of gas? ROFL. And apparently it takes 20 years for the only alien who has a brain out of the 1.8 MILLION of them to figure out how to fill up the tank, give me a break.
Secondly that ship would be the most fortified, researched thing on the friggin planet. It's not going to be empty for some solo alien to jump on in and take it for a joy ride. Even if the situation in the movie was true (empty ship), the inevitable military base that would be co-located with the concentration camp would have scrambled helo's just as fast as any news organization could to cover the scene (as a chopper had been reporting the fight for a good portion of the final combat sequence). They would likely have jet fighters up and about a few minutes later.
Third, ZERO weapons would be floating around, and certainly not anything as big as the mecha-suit he uses towards the end of the movie. The aliens would have been brought down and likely quarantined by an agency similar to the WHO and every single tiny piece of technology would have been striped from them. Even if they were allowed to live out in the open after a while, considering their super human strength it us unlikely they would have as shitty of a security system as a chain link fence separating the 1.8 million aliens from the 7 million + people who live in the Johannesburg greater metropolitan area. They would be much too easy to exploit especially considering their ridiculous addiction to cat food, organized crime would have a friggin field day.
I mean think about the hell folks are raising about having the terrorists in gitmo moved to U.S. prisons, could you imagine someone trying to move in 1.8 aliens next to peoples neighborhoods? Fuck the human rights groups, the governments would ignore them as they have for centuries, with only minor concessions to have them STFU, the would quickly take advantage of there being no laws covering the treatment of aliens and make up their own rules as they went along.
Even if some weapons managed to sneak their way out of whatever super secret lab/warehouse they were stored in, they would likely be kept by some government or sold on the black market for hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of dollars, not 25 cans (or whatever it was) of cat food.
Alright, I've gone on long enough. bottom line, before I get flamed to a burnt crisp, I thought the movie was ok if you just accepted everything and appreciated some of the cool weapon and fight scenes, the story was pretty meh in my opinion, even if it was more original perhaps then many of the other alien type movies. It wasn't amazing by any means.

Honestly Jaz after 20 years and having figured out "this shit doesn't work", they probably would've just left the ship be. Maybe tried to move it, but honestly it wasn't bothering anybody, why the effort?

Maybe, but I doubt it, people have researched much less significant finds for much longer.

I just saw it, I really liked it but yea, there was soem stuff that made no sense. Like, wtf is that weird jelly stuff and why can it power a ship and also mutate the guy into one of them?
also, why the hell didn't that idiot get quaranteened as soon as that stuff touched him for god sakes, then again, I guess after 20 years all the fanatic stuff would've died down so meh.
I think after a while they got used to them being there. At first the UN and other countries did all their stuff they needed and after they found out they could get nothing from it just left and put a PMC in charge much like they did in Iraq.
as for the weapons, i'm sure that the aliens probably made them while on earth.
also, what the heck are the aliens and why did they come to earth? I'm guessing it was an accident and the humans forced them onto the earth and it took so long to get that jelly stuff cuz of the camp we made.
the basters are tomorrow though :?D

Dafuq man, don't ask for proof if you'll refuse it if it's not in your favor, logic fallacy for the bloody win.

I think that its a movie. And if you had movies answer all the question you people are bitching about, we wouldn't have any damn movies except the titanic...
Its a movie about human relationships with others, racism, and cool ass action. Go watch discovery channel if you want a movie four hours long considering the theory and actions that would take place if an alien ship landed.
There is a reason the ratings are so high. People simple don't give a shit about the technical details. Just enjoy it!

It's like the folks who look for the lost city of atlantis, even if we find the sucker (have we even found it yet?) it's not really gonna do much for us other then fill some holes in history and prove that what a few philosophers wrote down was actually true. Unless there is some super secret technology that we haven't manage to come up with since like oh 400 B.C.
Ditto for the search of the titanic, we know how it sank, but we spent years looking for the sucker, then find it like some 70 years later, when there was really no point other then to snap some photos, and perhaps recover some artifacts, fairly inconsequential.
Probably not the greatest examples, but that ship would have been taken apart and put back together, probably several times before anyone gave up on it. Even then I doubt they'd leave it completely un-guarded.
Anyways, no point debating it, I thought it was just ok, others though it was great, to each their own.

One of the trailers had a interview of the humans talking to the alien. I didnt see that anywhere in the movie
sure it was asking how their weapons worked but im sure there were other questions that would have answered what we want to know
