Airborne arty
«

Since my last thread was locked because of many people going off topic, I would appreciate it if a mod saw off topic posts to just delete them without any 2nd thought.
I know its an issue to be talked abotu , but the straffes are gettign ridiculous now. Everytime i play an airborne player if nto 2 there are 3 strafes and 2 bombing runs for that player... And no way to defend, Even with my anti air on the feild, And on top of the killing power of a strafing run.... The supression is insane, i would venture to say insane supression or killing.
I got strafed and a vet 2 and vet 3 strom squad are pinned, i pop blitzkrieg to get unsupressed, jeep comes lalong aand starts to fire... 30 seconds go by and i am still supressed.... THrough blitz... really?

i cant really blame smokaz i mean playing against puddin is like trying to fight off breast cancer. You might win and do it and be a bad ass but you'll feel sick and mutilated forever.

this is because strafes hit BEFORE the plane comes on the field...and there is no smoke. Bombing runs are easily dodgeable, but not strafes...

Blitz only reduces suppression taken, doesn't actually help suppression recovery. Also storms have very bad innate suppression threshold or something like that.
Anyway strafes are pretty bad because of the no warning thing but getting as many as you described requires a t4 and SP investment

we honestly just need more standardization. If the other off-maps are going to have an element of unreliability ( i dont think they should...) then the plane ones do too. The luftwaffe plane is hidiously unreliable, because of its accuracy. Im not sure what you could do to strafes. Maybe reduce its dmg but give it a higher crit chance, so its like a officer pistol fly by kinda thing, obviously not 35% chance of death..but like 10-15 maybe. It does fire a lot of shots tbh.

Also, I lost a game due to not enough anti-infantry units, so airborne get double damage at each vet level.
More changes to come.

I disagree with your description of the Henschell.. I know this as the DoomPlane. A defensive ally with MI can make the first run sick, a spotting sniper can make it sick.. a cloaked kettenkrad can make it sick. I've seen it rape hard, but its definitely advisable to use it on more than a single tank to get the most out of it.

henschels can make armor players sad pandas if it gets called in on double sherman or 3 m8/t17 starting call ins haha.
but yeah, ive seen henschels rape. they send in some m18s/m10s to get your panther, pop one of those and keep los on the tanks.

henshels are bloody awesome dont bring them into this discussion.
The fact is that its hard for the devs to make the planes un reliable, they have already stated that and the yare looking into it.

I know planes can fly slower, BEcause the brit recon goes much slower then the american, same as the RAF rocket plane of doom.
They can still be quite effective, and no smoke needed.
But there needs to be a chance to move, Not a instat win button, Like off maps always have been.
Or make the planes more vulnerable to Anti air, Pumas or ostwins, whirlewinds.
ITs just seems fucked up that those units who can shoot down planes don''t, and its all about luck...

Pumas are not primarily Anti air though, they just have a gun capable of firing on planes.
Like the 50cal on a Sherman is meant for shooting down planes primarily, to give a tank some sort of protection against planes but you dont see them shooting down Hensels too often...

Patton.
OK, but 2 ostweinds on the field, half the total popcap for a battle and it can;t take one down, or even 3? that should be suffoicent anti air....

Anti air has never been reliable unless planes pass it at perfect distance (not too long not too close), its more like a random funny event if a plane is shot down. Also, the plane delivers the strafe at long range meaning that your guys probably still would be strafed even if the plane was eventually shot down.

How to fix strafing runs?
Make it have 50 range, instead of it's current 500.
Fixed in one press of back-space key, all praise Mysthalin.

If anything the .50 cal was designed as a deterrent to aircraft, i doubt the designers ever dreamed of it taking down an Aircraft, unless it was at point blank range and the Sherman itself wasnt being filled with Rockets or 20mm cannon rounds from above.
I'd suppose most pilots wouldnt exactly be happy about the idea of diving into a hail of .50 cal rounds headed thier way unless they really had to.
Though the bright side is the .50 cal being rather effective Anti Infantry, even if the top of the turret is a wee bit... Exposed.

The germans actually invented a remote controlled mg for some of their tanks to stop the gunner from
being too exposed. (e.g. Hetzer)
So yeah, german technology ftw bitches!
