~~UPDATED PLAYER ROSTERS~~

Hey guys, me and Jodo got to play some of the STO beta, and I have to say it's really quite fun, with lots of tactical gameplay and surprisingly ZERO lag with over 70+ ships on the screen with shield facing and weapon arcs and the like.

Anyway, I'm just curious if we could get everyone to post that is interested (doesn't mean they have to buy it as a 100% guarentee but who are inclined to think about it at least) so I can see who we can all play with together and what they will be.

Races aside, the main 'roles' and their advantages/disadvantages will be as follows:

Cruiser-type ships - Engineering focused ships that have tons of repair crews and auxillary combat abilities (boarding parties, security teams, ability to extend shields or send repair crews to other ships due to their own ships very large crew complement).  Will have 2 engineer slots, 1 tactical slot, and 1 science officer slot.  Bonus to warp core energy reserves (to power weapons/shields/engines) and can repair faster than other ship types due to more repair teams.

Escort-type ships - Tactical ships that rely on very high speed and maneuverabilty.  Will have 2 tactical officers starting out (they can do things like fire multiple torpedo spreads, overcharge torpedoes, etc) and have more guns than any other ship type, with most facing forward (4 Forward, 1 rear... as opposed to engineers that have 2 forward and 2 rear arc gun relays).  Also, will be only ship class that can mount cannons (think the pulse guns where it fired in bursts from the TV shows like the Defiant as opposed to phasers), which are limited arc guns that do very high damage compared to a phaser (which is mainly a large arc gun).

Science-type ships - Science inclined vessels that have the most science officer slots, however are limited to standard armaments (2 forward arcs, 1 rear).  However, due to being the most advanced ships in the game, they have the best shields (shields being the most important aspect of staying alive, as a small volley of torps against hull is usually instant death) and are the only class of ships that have innate subsystem targetting (take out engines, weapons, etc). Also are the only ship that can easily detect stealth ships, and have a heavy focus on using their deflector dish for attacks (through debuffs or other abilities).  Also will have many support abilities to make allies better or to make them impossible to target or to transfer more power to their shields/weapons, etc.

One doesn't also have to worry about soloing too much as all missions are 'public', meaning if someone comes in later, they can directly assist in the mission and the missions do scale depending on how many people of what rank are in the game (Jodo came back to help me and we were fighting pirates with multiple battleships on the first mission that he had done previously when only one showed up). So just because you have say a science ship doesn't mean you're gimping yourself in the slightest and many ships can do plenty with the vast choice of weapons in the game.

So far the EIRR Fleet is composed of the following from beta:

Sure's:
1. Lionel23 - Heavy Cruiser (Tank Focused) - Engineer Role
2. Jodomar - Escort (DPS Focus) - Tactical Role
3. Puddin - Escort (DPS Focus) - Tactical Role
4. Hicks - Engineer (Tank Focused?) - Engineer Role   *Available for outside assistance
5. GrinningD - Science?

Maybe's:
1. Killer
2. Jinker
3. WildSolus
4. Osprey - Science (Support Focus) - Science/Medical

Go ahead and post if you're interested, and I will update the original post with the fleet roster!

Any race from the series, plus any race you want to create yourself.  You then get to pick up to 4 racial traits of your choose (though if you pick one of the preset races, they have unique traits that no other race has, like Humans get TEAM WORK which basically buffs them for every ally in the game, etc).

Oh and also, the ships are not stuck in their roles either.  So if you want to make a small, light escort ship tank (through dodging or scrambling abilities) or a cruiser do DPS (they have tons of health and while they can't mount as many as a escort ship, they can stay in a fight for awhile), and playing tactically can change roles too (A science vessel zipping around with photon torps can wait for a cruiser to drop shields on a enemy ship and then fire off one-two torps and finish off the enemy since they do massive damage to hulls).

Customization is a HUGE thing in this game; your bridge crew, yourself, your ship (design and loadout), party compositions... it's really deep and massive the options and choices you get to pick from.

I will play alongside EiRR members should they play STO, but i will not be joining a fleet created by EiRR members as i have my own fleet plans.

I've been waiting for this game for a looooong time.

Well it doesn't necessarily mean a fleet, could just be a group of us playing if you got a clan you want to join, sides a lot of the missions allow for a high number of people to join.

Just to correct lionel on one major detail, there is a fourth ship type for very leet players. Its the enterprise from 200 years in the future. You get new weapons, a whole new type of shield system, and some pretty interesting perks that come with being from the future (a very cool hull armory system for example).

Unfortunately, only I qualify for this ship. Its basically like a fleet of 50 starships all in one.

Your full of crap lol.

On another note though...

Wildsolus, just to clarify for you, STO is NOT based on the timeline set out in the 2009 ST Movie. It's based on the "Normal" timeline to which Star Trek has always followed up to this point. You may already be aware of that, but, it only seemed right to bring up the point. >.>

Oh and Lionel, i'll sure enough catch you ingame, and be jumping in missions with ya here and there. Expect to see me floating around in the Constitution Class USS Yorktown sometime soon. xD

Though, i probably wont be getting into the game until late February, due to needing to upgrade my Computer before playing... And thats taking a while. o.O

Read over review quickly. It has instanced PvP that is accessible from the world map, but is a quest based game similar to any other major MMO short of EvE.

Also, you will not be stealing any loots, which is fail. Rewards are given for success in PvP however, again similar to WoW.

I am beginning to think of this as WoW in SPAAAAACE!!!

I think I might just stay with EvE, where combat actually is a part of the game that matters.

I'll post some vids this weekend when closed beta opens up, and you guys can judge for yourself.  I think the combat is 10x better that Eve (set rotate around target to 100km, click auto fire and let it duel, occassionally use boosters..), while in STO you got to keep flinging your ship around to bring guns to bear and divert power to shields or rotate to stronger sides to reload, and there is boarding and mines and such.

Yes there is PVP, and from what I heard the other side is fun too, since pretty much most of the klingons can cloak, and science vessels main advantage is to detect that.

My issue is that WoW style PvP is not fun after a bit, you lose nothing when you die, and rarely gain anything if you win. No risk = dull

I might be interested in being a Science/Medical Officer if such things are possible.

I am confused though, the trailer I saw for the game included a Constitution class from the new film, but also a Sovereign and a Galaxy class. When is it set exactly? I though Constitution ships were all scrapped/decommissioned.

(Sorry to reveal my inner Trek-nerd, but I do enjoy the back story to the Trek Universe more than, for example, Star Wars (which I like too, but only the films, not the extended crap)).

How easy is it to level up and get a good character in it? I would probably only play for a max of 3 hrs a week, would that be enough or would I end up like in WoW as a level 30+ with no-one around at my level group?

What races can you choose, character types and classes etc? And how do ships work, are you assigned to a vessel, or do you get your own?

You Aussies need to find an internet connection method that travels faster than light-speed if you want to sort that lag issue. Either that or improve the way information is sent about the world...
