they're both good imo. I don't really know how good certain companies are for motherboards but i just bought a gigabyte one and it works real good. The one i've got also has some extra protection against shock with some copper insulation (makes it heavier but if its true its awesome) and they had very easy to install instructions.

This was the one I bought

http://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-GA-MA770-UD3-Socket-DDR2-Motherboard/dp/B001PPY12W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1264486132&sr=1-1

but it seems you're going for a quad cord. I'd go with the 2nd if you have the case size other wise go micro but it makes installation a pain in the butt cuz of the wires being so close.

I think i might just go with the 2nd one,I'm just hoping the video card won't be too expensive.

Quick question, is it cheaper to buy a new computer or to build one yourself.(both computers being of same quality)

I think it's cheaper to make it.  Not sure though, but that would seem to be the logical answer.

I know some people in the mod who have Asus motherboards, and they say that Asus is a good brand.  I have an Asus motherboard but I didn't make my own lol.

In most cases its now cheaper to buy a prebuilt one,but i'm picky so i want to build mine i'd rather pay a little bit more to be happy with what i got  :p

ASUS costumer service is beyond shit. They gave me a defective motherboard and when I had a problem they sent me to some other company to fix a part on their motherboard? wTF?

Hmm i think its cheaper to build your computer..

Anyway, why dont you buy these:

Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe V2  (2 PCI, 1 PCI-E x4, 3 PCI-E x16, 6 DDR3 DIMM, Audio, Dual Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394)

CPU: QuadCore Intel Core i7 920, 2800 MHz (21 x 133)

Memory Chips: Corsair XMS3 CM3X2G1333C9   2 GB DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM  (9-9-9-24 @ 666 MHz)  (8-8-8-22 @ 592 MHz)  (7-7-7-19 @ 518 MHz)  (6-6-6-16 @ 444 MHz)

Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275  (896 MB)

And then a couple of harddrives  Cool

Then ofc you need a computer case and whatever your heart desires.

I think it would cost something between 900-1000£

ops kind missed the part that you just asked about a motherboard

ps: parts of my retro system ^^

seriously why an LGA775 system and no LGA1156 system with i5 750 quadcore?

e.g.

maybe add a better cooler than the intel boxed

but there are no good ones fitting to LGA1156 on that site

i spend $500-$600 making my computer and its been great. Well up to about $700-$800 in total now with upgrades and new motherboard and new monitor.

I just think putting it together yourself is the best even if its more expensive because if something goes wrong in the hardware, you're more intimate with the system than with a pre-built one.

i bought my pc 2 years ago for 450$ and i run everything today maxed out .  A medium end pc today is far more than enough for todays games and the next 3+ years.

High end pc for big cash is just overkill.
If you are an fps whore that needs 5 more fps go for it Lol

I've been building my own PC/adding new parts for years, and it's significantly cheaper than the alternative, especially for high end gaming solutions.

BigDick, to my surprise, is actually not far from the mark in his suggested build. Except the 486, obviously :p

I can't be assed to go find good prices, these days, but based on rough guesstimates I'd assume that throwing 300 dollars at a video card (some high end ATi product, probably, since the G300 series isn't out yet and the G200 architecture really can't compete right now with the 5000 series), maybe 100-300 dollars at a processor and 100-200 dollars at a motherboard, then 50 on RAM (2-4 gigs, any more is a waste, 2 will do you fine, 4 if you really think you will have a lot of memory intensive programs open at once...), another 150 on a hard drive and a case give or take...

You're looking at a medium-high end gaming machine for maybe 800 or 900 dollars these days. My PC's parts cost roughly a total of 1500 dollars when they were new/bought, total value is down to around 800 now, but it's still fairly high end with a 4870, velociraptor hard drive to cut down load times, 4gb of normal old ddr2-800 RAM and an overclocked Q6600 (bit of a relic by now, but a very solid processor, mine is sitting at 3.4 GHz because I got tired of stability testing...)

It'll run... most anything at most any settings. Not quite everything, but still pretty close. With the new hardware you can get for a comparable price (sub-1000 dollars) you could build an entire tower from scratch and run Crysis without AA on otherwise full, 1080p settings.

GIGABYTE motherboards are good motherboards that are fairly cheap. I have a gigabyte motherboard.

Speaking of motherboards, splurge on the motherboard. Since everything revolves around it, it's good to have an awesome one. Plus it'll give you more flexibility with the processor selection.

If you're going nvidia 200 series, don't buy the 280 models because they aren't any better than the 275s and they cost more money. I have a 275.

Everyone has their own opinion, especially on graphics cards. ATI is perfectly fine, but I prefer nvidia. Just make sure that you don't spend too much money. Like I said before, I would splurge on the motherboard. Not necessarily on the craziest one, but mainly just in terms of performance. i understand that most hard core motherboards are pretty much just b.s. for the uneducated buyer. GIGABYTE is a trusted brand with decent warrenties. I would suggest that brand and would NOT suggest buying motherboards from companies that produce graphics cards (aka Nvidia). They charge you more money for a motherboard that isn't really any better than others of the like. Basically you're paying for the brand.

You don't need crazy motherboards and graphics cards even for hard core gaming. I am the definition of a hard core gamer and I can run CRYSIS on ultra with my single 275 card at 40 fps. Don't get pulled into the web.

There are no reasons at all to get AMD instead of Intel, or nVidia instead of ati atm, unless.. you really like their logos Roll Eyes.

Except the 486, obviously :p

It's not even a real 486 its a 386-486 hybrid for enthusiasts
a 486 with 386pinout and external 387 FPU its on a 386 board as small as current ITX form factor

to cut a long story good shit ^^

I agree but everyone has their own opinion. I prefer nvidia and intel for my graphics card and processor...plus nvidia is cheaper than ATI but the cards are better.

Killer made a good point when he said "unless you really like their logos." brand loyalty is a killer no pun intended.
Just pay for performance rather than brand loyalty.
