Now bear makes his own funny thread. It's unsurprisingly not funny.

Both airborne and terror have some badass weapon teams. Terror ones become unflankable... airborne ones become ambushers.

That fail-epic sniper of terror is going to be nice fear inducer.

No KT buff... no terror officer... no zeal... a bit sad

I'm looking forward to play with new docs and against them.

There's a serious bug with the Upgunned sherman, releasing hotfix now.
You will have to run your auto-updaters now.

US
*76mm Sherman splash damage reduced.

there is nor drawback getting upgunned shermans they still rape infantry and PIVs

What is the exact drawback of buying skirts on your panzer IVs?
That's right, there is none - therefore there is none for buying upgun on shermans.

Also, gamesguy - terror and airborne were both helped create by the balance advice board - you can't just write all that input off ;p.

Zeal being removed is a very conscious decision, I would believe. 0.18 cooldown, on top of other buffs is just way out of line.

you cannot compare a different main gun with better armour.
the churchill mkVI has a different gun than IV, and you have to unlock it + pay much more fuel to use it. a complete different unit.
p4 IST also has a different gun than the p4. it is better vs inf, according to your logic it should also do the same dmg vs tanks as p4 gun?

not to forget: STUH, HE rounds

I'm comparing two upgrades on two generalist MBTs that are nearly carbon copies of each other.

The vanilla sherman, by default, has slightly better armour.
The vanilla P4, by default, has a slightly better main gun.

The two upgrades, both being equal in price, buff the according thing of the unit. For the P4 - it buffs the armour type to be better than the one on the sherman : with no drawback. For the Sherman - it buffs the main gun to be better than the one on the P4 : with no drawback. It's the entire point of an upgrade : to be an upgrade, not a buff on top of a nerf.

What is the exact drawback of Churchil MK 6 compared to MK 4? You pay more - you get more, fairly simple.

By my logic, the P4 IST gets skirts just the same way the regular P4 does, gaining a buff with no drawbacks.

Where it says "Airborne Infantry" (under Easy Company and All Ghillied Up, for instance) is that airborne riflemen, or does it also include regular airborne (with RRs) and other airdropped units?

He's just countering the (rather ridiculous in my opinion) argument that upgunning the sherman should a priori have a drawback. While some upgrades make a unit less capable at its original role, others are purely beneficial, such as for instance the skirts for axis tanks. He's comparing one upgrade to another to showcase that not all upgrades are tradeoffs. Upgunning a sherman gives it a slightly different role - it makes it somewhat more useful against medium armour. It's still a multi-purpose tank, if you wanted a purely AT armored vehicle you certainly wouldn't buy a sherman with upgun, you'd buy an m10 or m18.

If you're going to argue that upgunning should reduce the AI capabilities, then argue from a balance or gameplay stance. If you think it makes the sherman too cost-effective, argue the pricing of the upgrade. Otherwise, it's just an unfounded claim that an upgun should by definition be a tradeoff and not a pure upgrade.

As for the rest of your post, that's just putting words in his mouth. His point is "not all upgrades are tradeoffs", and he showcases this by bringing up an upgrade to the closest axis equivalent to the sherman. The difference is that skirts is pretty much a nobrainer, since it increases the survivability for the p4 in all cases. With an upgun, you have to consider whether you need the wider spectrum of uses for the sherman is worth the munitions. If you have plenty of AT elsewhere in your company, you'll probably forgo it. In fact, a better comparison might be the mg42 upgrade for axis tanks. It increases their AI capability without reducing their AT capability, but depending on how you use your tank you might forgo it because of the cost.

Edit: Myst beat me to the reply, but I'll still post this.
