Here's some more info: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=372188

You can also listen to podcasts on the main website where they talk about the new combat system and other stuff.

I can see a massive slew of Panzer General / Fantasy General fans and mods for Civ 5 - and they will WORK due to the new combat / economics model.

Civ 5 is as big of a leap that Civ 4 was from Civ 2 (and 3....)

That's like offering Beer to fuck the fat chick. It will work for a while, but it's not gonna last. Not only that, but there is zero motivation for the Fat chick to loose weight.

I loved civ 1,2, 3 and 4

TBH i really loved 4, the series has yet to dissappoint, and thats saying something. Its why im not reading anything more on what they are doing, just going to buy it (saying alot for someone like me) and play it. Either i like it or i don't.

Civ4 was the longest running game on my PC in the past 5 years... Civ5 will probably enjoy just at long of a run. Already pre-ordered and I asked for Wednesday the 22nd off just to play it Smiley

to be hounest i enjoyed civ4 more.  I laughed at ppl with stacjsks of doom... i used to run 10-15-20 arty peices in a stack and then a stack of 40 units would be wounded all to shit...

So instead of stacks of super death single units own and rape mulitiple units... So the Era special units are even more important now.....

It seem a bit more dumbed down  Much like Sub Com 2 was...  Its suprising how the games are getting" Streamlined"  In other words instead of 30 map types to chose from you get 8, instead of 30 Leders with 2 racial traits and every combo possible ou get 1 racial trait and onlu like 10-12 leaders....

I don;t get whyt he fuck games rape their well known titles...

Its liek Sub Com 2 and Call of dty MW2 goign to non dedicated servers...  It makes little to no sense and why the fuck dumb down a game known for its complexity and depth?

Civ series was already downgraded on civ3 stage. Someone remember Alpha Centauri? After that game civs 3-5 are just games for kids.

I personally like the new approach to the Civ 5 series, a lot of stuff you didn't care about in the 4th game make a HUGE difference like in Civ 4, all I really cared about was oil.  Here, iron and its finite uses means you need to have to take over or trade for lots of iron to make those iron units (Legions for example).  The unique units don't get obsoleted like many factions early game units did in the first game, LOVE the introduction of the city states, and the culture and city growth system I'm a huge fan of. And the interesting 'talent tree' policy system that represents key things of your nation/government style are mighty impressive... from the HONOR tree to Democracy, etc. The new combat system now is more tactical with terrain being a big thing for units and really, having archers covered by legions, etc can turn the tide for you, or especially if you use the lay of the land to force enemies into chokepoints (forts and citadels are MASSIVELY more important and now there is a reason to BUILD THEM!). Oh and happiness, man I tell you you never want to have unhappy people, and military nations that try to take over a bunch of cities and deal with that unrest can be in for a world of hurt afterwards trying to sustain themselves! All nice little checks and balances.

If I had to nitpick on anything, it seem that maybe the early/mid-game tech may go by too fast... I like the time period for rome (I think that is considered classical) but on the tech tree its a very small area compared to medieval times, but other than that I love this new approach.

To me, civ 5 is a nice improvement on civ 4.

Broken spying and religion are gone as are stack of dooms. Combat now requires actual thinking as does your city layout. A lot of people seem to dislike the fact they hid what the AI thinks of you but I love it. Instead of knowing I'm +6 or whatever with a leader now I'm left wondering if this war against his neighbor will make him hate me or love me.

Also puddin, your post is very uninformed.

I just want my map trading back. Tired of having to scout everything myself with the god awful AUTOMATED functions.

Seriously anything on Automate is retarded, m y works build a farm, then trash it for a trading post, then trash that for a farm, and so on for infinity.

Auto explore ship just sat in arctic ice using 4 movement on 2 squares back and forth. I don't automate anything now
