So, i regret to inform you all that my computer has gone tits up.

PSU kicked the bucket last night and fried itself. Smoke was everywhere.
I dont know the extent of the damage, or whether this is gonna be a $100 or $500 dollar fix.

Either way, im out for at least a week, and depending on what else is fried, probably gonna be gone for a month at the worst.

So, im dropping my involvement with the campaign, and no shoutcasts till I can get my shit straightened out.

The rules are up there, you people can do what you please with them to keep it rolling.

but good luck, this campaign seems to have a curse to it. :/

Anyone who would want to pick up the mantle, the download for the TripleA A&A warmap is in the campaign fourms. Its pretty easy to start up and edit, but your on your own for the most part.

EIRR is what has the curse on it, anytime we try to do anything to move it forward other than just random "balance" patches it takes the life of something someone owns, car, computer, back...

Originally thats what I was going to do with the AB and Commando's for the pre-invasion airdrop. One game, setup with special rules, play it out, shoutcast it, go go go. Then I got people saying they didn't want to be forced to invade Normandy, so we had to rework rules to allow landings anywhere...

All in all, hopefully we can start soon, if my desktop doesn't die...*knocking on wood*

Where did you buy the damned thing? Maybe you can get it exchanged and they can deal with the RMA.

A thousand watts sounds like overkill unless you're running some pretty serious multi-card cutting edge setup over there... maybe something less expensive next time is a better call if it's possible (I like Corsair PSUs myself).

yah, go for corsair or xfx, BFG's protection vs overloads is just bad.

BFG tanking must've been why this thing was on clearance. Best buy dropped their line.

They had 5 of these things brand new in shrink wrap for $130 around July. After looking up some reviews it looked like a great deal. I wouldnt have touched it if it wasnt brand new.

God, it all makes sense now.. they priced it knowing that the line was failing, now im stuck with this paper weight.

Oddly enough my move back to the East coast also seems to have finally made my pos desktop kick the bucket.  Coincidence? I think not!

Sorry to here it bro, but if it's only the PSU, you are only in for about $100. I've been using PC Power and Cooling's 750w Silencer for years with zero trouble, and they are widely hailed as the real deal. They test their units at 50C, so the effective power is more than the same rating from most other brands. Since they were absorbed by OCZ they have changed their cosmetic designs, but I'd bet the guts are still the best to be had:

By the way, Mal's right, you don't need 1kw unless you're running 4 GPUs or something ridiculous. My 750 powers a quadcore, a dual GPU graphics card, 10 hard drives, 2 burners, and about a dozen fans without any staggered spin up or anything.

Cheers!

Yeah I know it was overkill.
But when you have brand new 1000w PSUs sitting on the shelf next to 800w's with identical prices, both from (what I thought) were quality brands, which PSU would you be picking?

At the time, i thought the price reduction was just Best Buy trying to move expensive 1000w PSUs that no one buys. I didnt know BFG was going under... Sad
