A few years ago, before I played EIR, my roommates and I would have nightly lan battles. Every few few weeks we would download a ton of custom maps off the net to augment our stockpile for these games, eventually accumulating about 20-30 custom maps. Most were pretty bad and gimmicky, but every now and then we'd get a good one.

I've collected 3-4 of the good ones in this zip file. If a mapper resectored them and updated them to EiR (with a few changes) we could be in business for sure.

I'd especially like to see Gotterdamarung and Montallegro 1944 adapted for EiR.

There are a few maps in the file from my first post, but I like these two the best (they are also the only two from the file that can still be found online):

Montallegro: http://companyofheroes.filefront.com/file/Montallegro_1944;76274

 Gotterdamarung: http://companyofheroes.filefront.com/file/Gtterdmmerung;75811

Gotter just needs sectoring to be EiR ready, but Montallegro has a few bridges to remove as well. It is arguably the funnest map i've ever played because it has lots of elevation and sloping streets carving in and around a mountain, but it would be a 3v3/4v4 like no other you've ever seen in EiR.

I love the maps, But most of the whiny no skill players around here will bitch about the terrain and lack of big open fields.
Seems like if the map is not a a big field with a town in the middle, nobody wants to play it.

I would love to see more maps like these.

Keep in mind that some of these cool maps slow the game down to a crawl, if you have ever played Berlin in OMG you'll know what I mean. Since there's reduced avenues of attack everything turns into a mortarfest.

So, removing flanking capabilities and vehicle micro ability from the game, relegating the game's outcome to "Who has more mortars or other arty?" is something that the "no-skill" players whine about.

Sure.

Wind these maps were created by COH community mappers who Under no way gave you the right to copyright their material have you asked for permission to do this? And who are we giving credit for these wonderful maps? *im just being the devils advocate*
besides... I hate this sort of weakness,it shows weakness In our Ability to produce.

The files are open and available to download, as far as modification is concerned, the content and the code is relic owned.  I get that the person making the map has some nominal right, but if I Download the Map, and adjust it for my use,  I'm not breaking any convention.

Additionally in terms of the map being made for the mod, also we adjust the map by the mere fact of the code that EIR changes in terms of how sectors relate to the game overall.

I personally think people are being a tad precious about this. If the map and the content gets used and the original authors are given credit then there should be no issue.

There is a massive resource out there in terms of maps that some bizarre reason we are not leveraging, the content is available we should use it. To rely on a non existent mapper base  for whatever reason is stupid.

We need people like Wind and AMPM get out the identify maps and make them relevant to the mod so that the player base can explore new map content.

The more maps the easier it is to provide better campaigns TLS and in the overall planned campaign.

Aside from a small minority group of mappers who are mired in old pointless history, I cannot see any map maker saying no to their maps being used in a very well known and mainstream mod on a regular basis.

Great work wind and great to see AMPM stepping up to work on making these maps work with EIR.
