Halftracks; ever needed transport on a large map?

Triage; Allies can't buy medkits, this will do.

Airborne; cap points! blow stuff up!

Off map retreat works as it removes the old naff tactics of drop cap and run or pop kill and run and not lose anything in the process. Now you need to think about your tactics closely and not just randomly drop or sneek units with no consequences for not deploying them with support or within range of a releif force.

an example was last night in a 1v1 i droped 3 airborne squads 2 with grenades of which one had a satchel and one with a rr. they go in and set up sandbags. ashen counters with 2 volks and grenadier units with a mg,  but my plan was to drop in and then support with a halftrack with a mg team inside it.  I can't drop to far from my base line as id over extend my support line so i drop close enought to gain a sector and get my suppression team up.  It took some thought as to where i drop and i was lucky that i dropped in a area that had natural defences.  Anyway he attacks with a stug and some volks .  i chase off the stug with the rr and hold off the volks. the halftrack comes up and lays down suppression fire and i gain the terrirtory through a combined approach that gives my units vet has some nice gameplay in it and forces you to THINK about proper combat startergies.

If you want to succeed in this game google some stuff on combined arms tactics and start to think about those little field of fire lines that pop up when you set up mgs or the range distance of the mortar and the smoke button.

Practice it a bit and see the difference.

Bah it was a Pz4 not a stug and you got overrun about a minute later Tongue

However i would like to raise a question about offmap retreat and Field guns, That being. Same game last night i went to setup a Flak88 near my spawn to help fend off the horde of incoming airborne and armor. However it seems if i try and build to close to my spawn the offmap retreat activates on the Halftrack and takes it away the moment i start building my gun.

Im all for this new retreat function but is there some way we can stop our Gun Building trucks from instant retreating like that? having a gun destroyed because it wouldnt build wasnt much fun, And i can only presume the same issue with Howitzers aswell.

I love off map retreat, because it certainly does force players to think properly about their tactics.  Since you've introduced it it has improved gameplay immensly.

And you don't have to worry about your squad anymore once you've hit retreat. In retrospect having to toggle retreat off-map was somewhat of an annoyance.  Smiley

Ashen, I didn't think about the implications of building a Howitzer/88 too close to your spawn...  I may have to look into options for that... I apologize for the problem..

While you're at it... a way to retreat howitzers and 88s would be sweet.  But yes I agree with Salan and Acker, the new retreat feature is VERY good.
