Yeah, I actually have that.  My only real gripe w/ HoI3 is that managing the units by hand (in MP) is impossible, and putting them on AI is risky (against humans)

Sonic and Tails.
USe Tails to infiltrate the frontline by flying over it and then Sonic to break through.

Again you don't understand scope then if you compare all War games to be the same.  The scope of HOI is a bit too complex, and as the other suggestions show, they are plenty of other war games where it isn't so fiddly.

You are misusing the word 'scope' - all grand strategy games will have the same scope, that is, 'grand'. Perhaps you're thinking of the word 'complexity'? Even then you still don't have a point as what makes HOI fun is its complexity, so saying 'I want a game that's like HOI but without the complexity' is like saying 'I want a red car that doesn't drive'. Sure, it can still be red (read grand) but it is a pointless endeavor.

Not really, good gameplay is not a result of too much crap to do. While some people may think it is fun to pick up 1 rock at a time to fill a bucket, other prefer to grab a handfuls or use a shovel.

Adding pointless details that does not enhance the gameplay is stupid. IF the gameplay IS pointless details, then have fun. But really, if you are going to spend that much time going over what to move and build in a video game why not play a tabletop game instead.

Because no table top game has that level of detail, and im not taking up that much space for months at a time playing the next best thing.

if you want something fun and that you can go and comeback to months or even years later go Civ4 or 3.
they are 2 great games that can give you days to months of entertainment but in my opinion Civ 5 is horrible.
allso Europa Universalis III is good but is not in WW1 or 2

Depends how much detail you want, you can easily play a table top campaign that spans months, with unit and army management and territories that give you different bonuses.

Yes, but table top campaigns take up room in your house, and i really don't got room for shit like that for months.

Well anyone that does try it starts playing it, but in order to attract more people I find it best to just call it "try"

wasn't this thread about WWII strategy games?
i think alpha centaury is a bit way of topic (even when it was a good strategy game)

similar to HoI3 is just HoI2 (most find HoI2 better) and the direct follower of HoI2 is Arsenal of Democracy

http://www.paradoxplaza.com/games/arsenal-of-democracy

even when the differences to HoI2 are not that big
