Nope leo - you set the default direction by building the flak. No amount of recrewing will change the default.

Another possibly better example would be if Relic had neglected the facing ability when moving units. Imagine the headache of facing all your units by driving behind where you want them and then "parking" them in the right direction (think StarCraft). Imagine if StuGs behaved like that. It's ridiculous, and I think that's a little like the handicap the FlaK 36 has at the moment.

You can set the initial facing of the unit on construction. any deviation from there is usually a flanking move.

Also in the event that your enemy captures it at leats it's not completely punishing you because now each time he wants to use it, it has to turn.

IN all honesty this discussion sucks, Half the tread is about the 17 pounder and the other half completly ignores the valid points of the original question.

Let me restate...

1.) Is it possible to pick a direction for the 88 without attack ground and intense micro?
---1a.) If So Making it continue to auto turn would make it to powerful, So making it pick a field of fire would make more sense.
------1aa.) It is still able to be flanked and still requires Micro this way, However it removes the cheapness of being able to know the exact orientation of the weapon and then just avoid it.

2.) Every other unit in the game can pick their orientation, why not this one?

Pretty simple really, No its not a mirror 17 pounder but would function similar, And before you bullshit about its a copy i don;t want to fucking hear it, the At guns, and support team mgs and mortars that have been added in are pretty good mirrors as well and its found to create balance some Similar types of game play is required, this would be one of them that every 88 player despises.

Also, IF i were to work my ass off as allies to capture the 88 and the axis were dumb enough to place it close to the front lines and able to over run it, I have earned the right to face it in their direction and fuck them in the ass with all its miGht!!!

Try changing the "return to original facing" as "disabled" or set to 0. So it will always stay pointed somewhere. Attack ground to change direction and then click stop... This may also means that it could be aiming at the sky when the pershing comes...

Don't think there's a "return to original facing" line in the RGDs - but we could increase the post-firing aim time on the unit to something silly like 500 seconds. Only problem - it wouldn't maintain aim after being used for attack ground and ordered to "stop".
