Also, the +5 range for ap rounds really isn't a big idea, if you use atk move with it, you get one shot off, the thinking behind it is getting a second shot while the tank is trying to move away. I'm sure it's just a test to see if it's something feasible.
A click-able range increase that you have to buy with mu is waaaay different than a passive range buff on a moving vehicle, it would break balance so ridiculously, but a range buff on like say a mortar, hmg, atg, 88, bofors, etc something that has to sit still to fire, excluding units that have to lock down, isn't.
Try to abuse it, you can't.

I really don't think the increaced range on APDS is a big deal... for reals when its worse than a PaK40 whats the problem?

My 14-2 Def coy proves that.
If you look at the pak40 leaderboard, Tym has two vet 2 pak40s and one on its way to Vet 2 and how many vetted 17's do I have? 0, how many do i have in my engie coy? 0

Obviously KT is OP then =) Cause you know, being able to vet things means they are good.
Or, more likely, as soon as his crew hits 2 men Tym hits retreat.

coaxial are more for looks than anything, they do such a tiny amount of damage, ive chased volks around with a calli before for like 30-60 seconds before finally killing a dude.

you guys totally misread what i said. I said i'd rather have a pak40 over a 17 and to support that claim, I show that i dont use 17's even though they'd be more useful against axis than a pak40 is vs allies.
If i were allies and had a choice to pick up a pak40 or a 17 pdr with apcr (i know u can't keep it on drop but just theoretically) i'd go with the Pak40 every time.
The 17 is a hard to maneuver unit and it only does base 57mm damage (150) unlike the pak40 which does 187. so, more damage, easier to move. Yes i know it's a t3 but i'm just stating which I like better. I hate the 17 pdr.

I got a 17 pdr to Vet 2 in one game, without even trying. They are literally EPIC at the moment.
Why yes Mr Jadgpanther, to me you are nothing but a giant STuG, and my 2 17pdrs drop you to 1/4 health in a few shots at ranges you can't do anything about.

Yes, they're easy to get to vet 2 cuz its 20 xp instead of 27 like all others so 2 kills and boom.
and lol yeah if you use 2 17s of course it'll do damage like that, that's 300 health right off the bat with 2 clean hits. I can do the same thing with two pak40s and do 374 damage and say bye bye churchill, pershing, whatever. All im sayin is i like the pak40 over teh 17 pdr, you obviously like the 17 pdr, so we have that settled, done.
dont try and tell me how epic it is if I dont like using it, cuz frankly i could give a crap, i'll stick with my 6 pdrs which i love. If i had a choice of atgs it'd go pak40 then 6 pdr, then 57mm then pak then 17 pdr.

You were complaining that the 17 is not as good.
Let us compare.
17pdr = better penetration and range with APDS, t1 unlock includes other options
PaK40 = better damage, worse pen, worse range compared to APDS, T3 unlock with LeIG which kinda sucks.
17pdr is also in an EPIC doctrine, that allows you to spam tough armor and flame thrower Sappers all day + the best ATG currently in the game (pak 40 does less DPS than a PaK 38 for better pen, 17pdr counters the one thing axis tanks have going for them, tough armor).
17pdr also has units that allow you to disable tanks (Bren button infantry/carrier) meaning that the enemy cannot rush or flank you without threat, unlike the PaK (lol schreks vs Churchills).
The fact is, the 17pdr is better at it's job, while tying into the doctrine at a much stronger level than the PaK 40 which doesn't do any better than a PaK 38 vs most targets and is significantly worse vs Light Vehicles.

You can keep your 6pnders Tym, they're shit compared to the 17lber. 17lber cover shield is MUCH better than the 6pnder (which is none). I had an ostwind flank my 17, he fired 15 shots into it at point blank and couldn't hit the crew, while my 17 proceeded to rape a panzer 4 and a panther before he finally sent infantry to gun the crew down.
Also being so tough, it's like the 'ranger' version of ATGs... its pretty easy to keep the vet alive due to 4 man crews, hits REALLY hard for its slow rate of fire (my main complaint with weak 57mm). It's my new tank reaper company. I would really like to see an US version of it as the M5, then I would actually use ATGs as the allies.
A great gun, I never really notice the +5 range due to slow rate of fire and tanks seem to charge into it and sit there and get whailed on by 2-3 17lbers over and over, but its protection it provides from non-arty sources like tank shots and gunfire is the best. My new favorite unit next to rangers.
EDIT: I just thought of this, but I don't think its fair to compare the pak40 to the 17lber mainly because that same doctrine has the 88mm... which is a very powerful, long range AT gun (albeit stationary) and with certain docs becomes an arty piece, and has a good chance at killing infantry, as opposed to a 17lber which cannot hit infantry easily like every other atg nor has the massive splash the 88 has.

This needs to be changed, that was absolutely retarded! I sat there and pounded your 17 for a good minute before it actually died, and I was hitting it from behind most of the time, it took so long to kill that I bet you could of rolled a fresh 17 and killed me by the time I killed it.
It's like a turret-less churchill with a FF gun!
I wanted 17s to get slightly buffed, but after the game last night that was just ridiculous, though it's hard to judge because of some of the spam we faced.
