I'll have you know I look up everyone long before they smash me.

We've got Anti-Smurfing tools in place for a reason we just have not reached the stage where we've begun enforcing them heavily.

If there is a large skill difference between Newguy28, and expertsmurf 501, then something needs to be said.

SOOOOOOO... personally I don't see anything wrong with smurfs. I rather play against smurfs than some poor new player because no one else will join the game.

Why not add a "tag" to the game that says "Smurfs welcome" and "Smurfs GTFO"? Would allow players to do some self-policing =D and maybe u can actually enforce the rule with some moral authority.

I'm under the impression that people either play this game

1) competitively - which takes all comers
2) socially/for fun - which means no smurf no grieving, thanks.

It'll probably draw the line very well between insults/grieving/vet hunt allowed (competitively) and a "social game" instead of running down the well worn path of being selectively sanctimonious.

How about actually enforcing the rules and not allowing players to make smurf accounts at all?

You could ofc change it so that ppl can only make a single profile. Would sure help to identify ppl, rather than everyone having different profile names and smurfs and forum names.

Because we would rather deal with the drawbacks we know until the final solution is implemented after the warmap (automatch)...

Yeah, how would automatch work in a community that's so small?

Forum names could be linked to all account names once hovered over in game, revealing all smurf aliases under an account.

Still though, if you want to smurf, you'd have to create a whole new forum account.
Could do what (god forbid) OMG have in place, one forum account per IP unless other circumstances exist (eg. multiple people in the household play) which would make one forum account per user, with whatever aliases they like, but when you hover over their name in launcher, it'll show their forum name as well as their alias.

And what would be wrong with that?

Honestly, what's the real problem with smurf accounts?  Are people just angry because they dont know who they are facing?  I mean most of the time it really doesnt matter.  Th reason a person creates a smurf anyways is because they most likely got dodged all the time like how it was in earlier times of EIR.  So now people do it just for no reason apparantly, which can be aggravating but I just dont understand why people are so up in arms about it...just let it be.

Was about to quote Smokaz, but *shrug* the post dissappeared.

I have a system currently in place that the launcher CAN use, but its not enabled, because there is no point at this time without Automatch.

With the Automatch system, which I have discussed in depth elsewhere will do this in short:

Sign up to join a game (choose 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4 or any combinations)
You can choose to:
Play as a team
OR
Fill in as a slot

To protect those who hate playing smurfs, you can ALSO tick this:
Play only vs random slots

That way, if you and 2 others choose to play as a team - you more than likely will ONLY face another team of 3 - usually because those people play well together BUT if you actually dont CARE (like most I imagine) - you can select to be a fill-in slot player

This will allow people in an Automatch system to play with friends AND/OR stack - but they face the problem that they may get counter-stacked!  Always great!
With this system, you will also never get stacked against if you dont want to.

There are some issues with the system, I can understand that, however it allows all players to play to their style within this small community.

So, yeah.

Someone else can feel free to search and find my verbose description of the Automatch system, but thats it in a nutshell.

Exactly.

In the future, all accounts (Relic ones) will show the Forum name that the account is connected to.  This wont be an issue (or much of an issue) when 1 Forum ACC per IP and the Automatch system is in place, but atm, its not - so YAY...

Look you're thinking im here to cause a ruckus - but i'm just pointing out stuff that is right there sitting in the couch with it's party hat happily.

1) IP addresses are treated with zero respect
2) everyone could "check" smurfs if the tiny, tiny change that Phil said the following about

Now I'm no pro c0der - but it seems to me - that adding in the max number of player listed to be 50 -> all would at most force leaderboard to have "pages" or the page itself be very, very long.

Posts don't accidently dissapear, btw. They are deleted.

I deleted your post because you are just continuing a flame war and personal crusade against the moderators. You are not the only one doing it, and you are not the only one to have their posts removed. I do not play favorites and I do not make personal exceptions.

I also do not tolerate witch hunts.

Now let's get back to talking about the game instead of the dev team running it shall we.  Wink

I have personally never seen you do that - you just say what you see *shrug*

If used to check if someone is smurfing, I agree.

If used to check if someone is breaking the rules on the forum - well thats what its for Wink

I missed your post about that, what did Phil suggest?

Is this what Phil suggested?  Cos this is going to be implemented more than likely at some point anyway - but with the Launcher showing Forum names, it will be a moot point anyway (when activated)

On the topic of smurfs, automatch solves all but I don't see why cloud's suggestion of 2 launcher game types can't be used as an interim fix.

Well whats right with them?

1) competitively - which takes all comers
2) socially/for fun - which means no smurf no grieving, thanks.

As cloud said, some people are in group 2. I come to EIR:R seeking fun and a well played match. The key word here is FUN.
The mod is made to cater for both groups i do believe.
Now, considering i fit into group 2, i hate smurfs. Its usually a game that's frustrating, a gross stack, or a game filled with spammed OP stuff.

I feel for the people who have a major amount of skill who are dodged most of the time. But there are other people who can rival them.  But it really can't be helped.

People are up in arms about it because its such a now common thing. Nobody likes loosing so many times in a row, especially when its a balanced game or its spam ETC. Everyone enjoys winning.

fun = competitivity
The two go hand in hand.

Better not split everything up into even smaller pieces. There would be no pie left.

Just creates more work for me that could be put to better use in the mean time.

2-3 hours to make the smurf tag thing work
OR
6-10 hours to make the Automatch thing work
OR
10 - 14 hours to do both (adding an hour for clean-up if I did both, then disabling one)
