Hey guys, has anyone played this game? I've had a few mates ask me to play it and I've checked out some lets play youtube videos.. Combat looks fairly decent as far as MMO's go, it's $10 per month (on a six month membership) and levelling up provides plenty of options to create unique character builds.. I'd like to know if this is one of the more desirable MMO RPG's in terms of combat. Mainly I play these games for PvE (eg. Neverwinter Nights, Baldurs Gate) etc. I used to be a hardcore Diablo 2 multiplayer fan, but ever since I managed to get everything in that, I've been looking for a substitute. If not RIFT, can anyone recommend some decent MMO's?  And not Star Wars!

I have it, just haven't played in a while. It's like a better version of wow but with less dungeons.

No, terrible. really terrible

Same thing everyday. My buddy played it for 1 montha nd stopped(had prepaid 6 months) our other buddy took over his account and also dropped it.

The PvP is terrible and the PvE is the same shit, just sitting around waiting for raid's and shit that all MMO's have.

Read his post, it easily has the best PvE play right now, with Rifts, Raids, and quests galore.

It's a solid MMO, better than WoW.

PvE is gay. If a game doesn't have strong competitive PvP it doesn't matter how good it is, you can only play it so much. Theres a reason I run through Knights of the Old Republic every few years, because any more then that and it loses it's edge. but I always come back to EiRR. PvP.

This is a post asking if it is a good game for HIS tastes, not yours.

Damn Brn, when did you stop reading posts?

What he thinks is irrelevant. PvE is only the path to PvP.

Even still Rift is not on the level of PvE that Neverwinter Nights is he'd be better off finding the Graphics mods for  Elder scrolls III: Morrowind.

He's still just gonna be bashing at the same raids on the same days every week and it'll bore him quickly

Which is exactly what is happening to my other online friends. Spinn72 will download the trial of it. Enjoy it. Pay for it and then get bored inside a month.

Right you are. Unfortunately all MMOs seem to go in the same direction towards Themepark MMOs like WoW and completely miss out competitive PVP. I like Ultima and Tibia, at least when you kill someone you'll win/lose and there are no fucking battlegrounds.

I tried our RIFT free trial, and it was better suited to what I was after, but it was still a little out of hand for my liking.

Well, it's really depressing come to think of it. I've played almost every decent RPG released in the last 10 years (Morrowind with graphical enhancement included, hell, this is how I found EIRR, on moddb whilst looking for mods). I've also played most top rated mods for RPG's, but none of this PVP shit comes close to what Neverwinter nights could offer in an online environment. If you wanted to quest out with one ally, you could do so, and you'd have a ball. Todays MMO's are like, you get a party of 20 people and raid a dungeon.

I mean, what happened to single player RPG's? Dragon Age 2 lost everything that I ever liked about it.. I mean, I'm waiting for a Baldurs Gate clone.. I guess I shouldn't be getting my hopes up Tongue

If anyone is looking for an extremely immersive, in depth RPG (a little on the slow side), i'd recommend Nehrim mod for Oblivion, which I have previously done on these forums below. It is undeniably 10x better than vanilla oblivion, and it's wholly hand made, unlike oblivion which was 86.6% random if I recall. http://www.moddb.com/mods/nehrim-at-fates-edge

does it require the expansion of oblivion?
