I have to say most americans are pretty dumb, but i also think most PEOPLE are dumb. but most americans aren't lucky enough to be in areas that speak anything other than spanish and english.

but if anyone visited me in NYC you'd see that on the subway alone you can hear 5 different languages being spoken at any time.

In my neighborhood you hear english, lots of spanish, a bit of french, some chinese, and slavic. any other place in the US ive lived its either just english or english and spanish. though when i was in college we had a huge jap population so japanese was spoken nearly as much as english. and in hawaii you have filipino and hawaiian added to the mix as well.

I have heard many languages were in the greater houston area were I live. In school yeah its mainly English and Spanish, but other things I have heard are mandarin, Cantonese, some Arabic, and Hindi.

I have heard others too, especially Tagalog because my mom is from the Philippines.

And I can pretty much guarantee you the Houston area is one of the most mixed places ever.

anyway. the issue in america is that we dont NEED to learn other languages. In europe you go 50 miles you could be in another country. In america we dont have that issue. Our country is as larger or larger than Western europe.

Canada & United states combined, you gotta go a long way before needing another language. I don't include French Canadian as I would rather eat dog shit than learn their language.
I know a little spanish, but basically just enough to get a drink and find a banjo.....lol

see, same thing in NZ. No need for another language so a max two, so for those stuck up euros who say "you americans only speak one language, ur idiots" we dont need other languages...1000 years ago everyone in europe spoke latin or died.

in america there's really only english. spanish is only here because of the spanish coming up north, but the white and black americans speak spanish? forget it.

It's funny in the US, or at least in areas like south west, NYC, and cali, if you are fluent in spanish and english you just increased your chances of gettin a job by 50% it seems.
