It's about game addiction and how game designers are using the same methods as gambling halls or something.
was a good watch, and reconfirmed why I hate MMORPGs.

Is this from the same clowns that say that McDonalds is using the extra-addictive food seasoning of sugar and salt and that it is extra-addictive because it tastes good?

isn't it that very salty food in general makes you thirsty
very sugared drinks makes you more thirsty and hungry
and very fat food makes you hungry?
so last time when i visited a mcdoof in germany all this stuff was exactly like described
fat and salty food and way to sugared drinks

Just to clarify. I don't disagree with the idea that the reward structure of an MMO resembles that of gambling. I think that is very insightful and very much true (which is why I don't play MMOs or RPGs). What I disagree with is the implicit attribution of malice to game developers. I don't think Blizzard sits around in their offices scheming up better ways to get people addicted. They just test their games, see what is fun and what works, and then ship the end-result.
Twitter wasn't built to get people addicted, Twitter and Facebook were built as tools to share information. Farmville's 'degeneration' mechanism isn't some sort of conscious attempt to feed addiction, it is because in real life
farms spoil

erm, they had psychologists help when making WOW to make it as much as addictive as possible. As you can see,it's most famous mmorpg out there.
Well, facebook is now there only for profit,it may have been build for sharing information in mind, but it's basically used more against you than for you.

Just like Casino's YOU need to be the one to say im done for the day/week/year. There are always people who take it to far, hence why nearby stores highest sales are adult diapers around casino's. Is it wrong possibly, but it means that the person in question is vulnerable to this type of 'addiction' so who knows, i mean just like casino addiction and drug addiction, there are programs to help these people.

Going to have to agree with Audemed.
Your paying for something that entertains you. Nothing wrong with that. And not to mention videogames are cheap compared to their alternatives.
Now, what I do believe is unethical, is coming out with a slight graphics update and longer story every year and charging it for 60$, forcing you to buy to keep up with all the other retarded friends you have. (you know what im talking about)
Now THAT is unethical.

Because people some people cant use them responsibly and some have other uses malicious uses.
You have to be alot more responsible with alot of drugs compared to gaming.

Assuming the person has some intelligence and willpower, that question would be irrelevant.
Its up to the user to decide to what extent he does things, and that decides how it effects him.

As with any addiction, Education is the best response. I don't play most MMO's because I'm aware of what they are trying to do to me on a subconscious level. I also don't support a "Buy & Subscribe" Business model.
I have enjoyed and always will enjoy playings games. However I've certainly had times in my life where a Game was easier or more rewarding then... say Doing the dishes, or cleaning.
I also played the shit out of games to be in the top 100 or to earn money in tournaments. Unlike Gambling, most competitive games are a test of skill.

Personally i love MMO's, but i also know i have the will power to walk away anytime i choose, also i physically can only play an mmo for max 2 hours a day after the first week or two.

This is where i get the most annoyed, because competitive gaming especially a competitive RTS is not like gambling but more along the lines of Chess

What about Heroin or Crack/Meth or WoW? One of these WILL kill you quickly, ruin your life, and probably cause you to tear your family apart. The other is a video game that you can quite without having physical withdrawal symptoms.
People that are easily addicted will get addicted to ANYTHING, it doesn't matter if it's WoW, EIR, Mario, Pokemon, collecting stamps, gambling, hookers, alcohol, drugs, etc.
Exercise is addictive, so is sex. OMG!! Evil plot!! We should forbid both!

yea,but you can have mental problems,in a way, that you wanna go back,no matter what. And sometimes, mental issues are far worse than physical. There are so many side effects that WoW has caused in kids, from becoming totally antisocial, not leaving room, even killing other people when they sold your virtual sword. So yeah, they are far away from being harmless.

which is also addiction, cuz being in top 100 will give you literally nothing in life, except how you see yourself, like 'uuu,I am in top 100,damn I'm good' when in the end you are wasting you life and time on something completely useless, that only has purpose in your head. Would you rather impress chick,I am in top 100 in WoW OR I am one of the best people in footbal/basketball/swimming...anything else, in my country/world,you will probably spend less time to become top sportman than top WoW player, lol. Not to mention that you will look great, feel good and people will look up to you.

Well, assuming that person has a bit of intelligence and willpower, who normal will spend 7-8 hours per day playing computer game?
Just compare kids today and kids 15+ years ago. I hate today kids.
Not to mention that you will probably get some medical problems like slowly loosing eyesight while watching pc all day long...

Well,if it's up to me,I guess that smoking 1 small joint daily will cause me far less problems than sitting in front of pc 8+ hours and playing games. Yet one is legal, while other is not.

you also have to be a lot more responsible with car, yet, every idiot can get license. So yeah, many people cant use cars responsibly(drinking and driving anyone?) so they have even more malicious uses than some drugs, but not only on you, because there is also good chance that you will kill/cripple someone else with your car.
