it's primarily useless unless that is your field of work/study/research.
Or you set public policy towards it.
I don't care if the voting public knows much about science but they need to support it at the ballot box.

The pseudo-theocratical reign of George W. Bush says that won't happen anytime soon.

So only European countries like UK, France and Germany are useful and others hold no value at all? Lol AmPm that was kinda rude and ignorant
You forgot to list one important country there. Norway. They posses something people want and need. Oil.
Even Finland has its place somewhere with its large industries i.e (Kone, Ahlstrom, Nokia, Stora Enson, UPM etc)
I mean, who built the World's biggest Cruise ships?

Because a forum post should be like a woman's skirt. Long enough to cover the subject material, but short enough to keep things interesting.

America will continue to lead the world in technology, because we absorb the best and the brightest as much as possible. The average person doesn't need to know anything about science to do their job, that's like saying that being well rounded and having a deep knowledge of art history is important. Yea, cool, you learned something, but it's primarily useless unless that is your field of work/study/research.
Honestly, I don't think those people should even be eligible to vote if that is the case. Democracy also assumes a certain investment from its citizens, i.e they need to inform themselves wisely and they need to form an opinion on the issues in society; based on well founded arguments and facts. Unfortunately half of the population doesn't give a shit where as in the other half at least another half are simply too stupid or ignorant to do their democratic homework. (They are largely 'sheep' voters, voting because they can or based on shallow party messages) That only leaves a small majority of the population that actually has a clue what they're doing, spread over various parties each holding on to a specific perspective.
You wouldn't leave health care in the hands of someone that is unqualified, so why leave democracy to the average joe that doesn't have a clue? Mind you I'm not arguing we should abolish democracy, it's downright terrible but still the only thing that really works. The deficit with democracy today, and American democracy in particular, is public disinterest (which leads to parties catering to the 'extremer' groups in society that still DO care for politics just to push their agenda) and corporate involvement.
Also, America is done for as the shining city upon a hill. It's a superpower in decline and there's really no turning back. I'm not saying it's not going to remain a large power, it's just no longer THE world power. With India, China, Brazil and even Mexico on the rise, and the EU holding steady, we are moving fast towards a multipolar make-up of the world, in which power is going to be fragmented over multiple parts of the world. The US economy will recover, but it's certainly not going to continue 'leading' anything. (Except perhaps some niches of certain markets)
A final remark; smaller european nations may be more 'irrelevant' in the power make-up of the world, that doesn't mean they are entirely irrelevant in the scope of history, since often they are the countries which possess large amounts of knowhow, high GDP/capita, low income inequality and happy/healthy citizens. Looking at the statistics, I don't see why anyone would rather be born in the USA than in say Sweden.

The US is still THE world power. China relies on us as much as we do them, Brazil and Mexico are still 3rd world shitholes (tbh, they really are), India relies on business from the US as well and the EU failing hard and being unable to handle even their own internal business, never mind doing anything in the wider world.
I would love if Europe would actually do something useful (Don't include the Brits here, they are usually quite willing to actually take action on things). I mean come on, Darfur, really? It's super close to you guys and you can't even be bothered to do something about it.
I'm all for US military withdrawal from police actions and withdrawing US foreign aid to many of these corrupt governments and failed states. Let someone else shoulder the burden and we can get on with our lives. Sadly, when something actually needs to get done it lies as on the shoulders of the US to do something.
People can complain about Iraq or Afghanistan all they want, the fact is, bad people were doing terrible things and any mission that involves stopping them, even as a side effect of gaining access to resources, is still a good thing. It's similar to saying we should have let the Nazi's/Soviets have Europe because getting involved would lead to us profiting.

You're right, America only let the Soviets have half of Europe. And Americans couldn't care less if the Nazis took Europe, considering a large amount of American businesses (including those headed by Mr. Prescott Bush) were funding the German war effort. Considering America has essentially been picking its proverbial ass in terms of international relations not involving signing one-sided treaties with Asian nations unfamiliar with Western diplomacy in the past century, I think it's good america's doing something as opposed to the whole lot of nothing it was usually doing.
In addition, you can't really say that America's invasion of Iraq was anything but pure, unadulterated conquest. Not a policing activity, an invasion. Not a reconstruction, an occupation. Thank God it's over now.

lololololol
First of all USA has a long history of supporting dictatorships, sometimes very brutal ones. As long as they do what USA wants them to they can slaughter and oppress their own people however they see fit.
Second here are some countries where they have gone even further.
Iran.
Guatemala.
Brazil.
Chile.
Argentina.
Nicaragua.
These are all countries that had their democratically elected governments overthrown and replaced by dictatorship through meddling from USA. Thats right, not only do they support dictatorships, they also destroy democracies and turn them into this!
Yeah the world should totally be grateful for USA meddling in other nations!

Not to mention America literally created its own enemies, and put the "bad people" into the positions they are in now. Saddam Hussein himself was given approval to seize power by the American government at the start of his reign, and Osama bin Laden recieved CIA training during the Cold war. Guess he put it to good use, huh?

I wonder when some country will rationalize attacking a country which is clear a western civilized country over resources or political agenda. It's been done before, could happen again.

US only does something when it benefits from it,but it's usually masked,we are going there to help those poor people, not,we are going there to get 'more rich' or whatever other reason.
And about overthrowing some states, even some CIA members admitted that they went to some country's government, gave em a choice to become US puppet, they usually declined,so you kill el presidente and install your puppet.

no,you go there to liberate those poor people of their ignorance, because they are too stupid to manage their own resources,so you will do it for them, fare and square
