Purchase advice
«

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a laptop, since I'll be going abroad next year, but I would still like to be able to play some of the higher end games from time to time (i.e I'd love to play BF3, Skyrim, etc) Not necessarily on Ultra, just somewhat 'high' settings would do.
I'm aware that laptops aren't the best gaming rigs, and I really don't have more than +- 1200 euros to spend. So I have to try and get the best bang for my buck.
I've come across this laptop :
http://www.laptopshop.be/product/173245/category-187501-game-laptops-qwerty/msi-gt683dx-852nl.html#product_specifications
And from what I can tell, it seems about just right. The 570M is a relatively high-end GPU, so that should be great no?
Granted, I am a little concerned about the I5 (dual core) not being fast enough, though would this really be an issue for most games? (Quad cores cost considerably more, and I'm not sure if they're worth the investment overall)
Some advice from the tech experts would be welcome

OK, I see
you really want advice
I think you were able to pick right rig by yourself alright. I have 1 MSI cheap netbook serving as hackintosh almost for 5 years now and can confirm reliability of brand (in this price range). Specs are cool, you do not to be concerned about cpu performance as whole notebook will be limited by single weakest link (e.g. you can have quadcore, but if you have motherboard with FSB throughput 800Mhz you see no difference against old centrino) , and here i think whole shebang is cool and I would take it. Unless you have some specific price, brand or design preferences or want to dedicate time to research about functions that you will rarely use anyways
In end you will only postpone it and every month compare it to new one with just 1 perk better and so on.
Just buy it!
only advice after quick search - buy it elsewhere with generic US keybord/locale, e.g. like our bananistan, mucho cheaper

other choices:
http://www.alza.cz/lenovo-ideapad-y570-d271744.htm
(bigger drive, older gfx,cheaper)
http://www.alza.cz/hp-pavilion-dv7-6b90ec-dark-umber-d265240.htm
(ATI ok? , bigger screen hmm but slower HDD)
http://www.alza.cz/asus-n55sf-s1262v-d272704.htm
(dunno about ASUS nowadays, i remember they produced good build quality stuff)

laptop = le fail as u pointed out but 1200euros is a lot

i would definitely wait for the new 28nm gpu generation of nvidia being released in a couple of month cos the shrink from 40nm -> 28nm is a lot especially considering performance/watt ratio and indirect the performance delivered by notebook gpus

dualcore i5 is still fast enough for current highend games cos most have not much benefit by more than 2 cores
i would be more worried about the GPU

Thanks for the tips. I know laptops are le fail, but it really needs to be a laptop and any laptop that can run modern games at high settings reliably is going to cost quite a bit. (1200 euros is actually on the lower end in terms of price, most cost significantly more)
The GPU performance looks good enough, it should be able to run the current generation of games reliably on high settings AFAIK. Yes I could wait for a new generation of GPUs, but those are probably also going to cost A LOT more when they first ship.

maybe I explain a little bit more.
I guess for you western guys is hundred EUR like nothing, but even then your shop is OP
So my recommendation would be to search shops in EU for best price as with notebooks manufacturer is obliged to take care of it regardles of origin!!! Hence I suggested getting it from our shop, where exact same machine costs you 840 EUR (and even cheaper if you refuse operating system with it)

you should consider that the gtx570
m
is in no where equal to the desktop GTX570 its more like a underclocked GTX460 with smaller memory interface
sure it will run all current games somehow but for sure not in highquality and 60fps since the notebook of your link is fullhd
dunno if i would spend 1200++€ for a notebook (for gaming) with a gpu that performs like lowend desktop gpus (i would say performance is around GTX550)

The laptop isn't just for gaming, else I would obviously get a desktop instead. I'm not going to chip out 2000+ euros for a laptop that is on par with desktop gaming rigs. According to benchmarks the 570M is one of the higher end GPU's available for laptops today. It's really either that or something worse. (Or the 580M which would cost me even more)

I don't think you need to worry too much about your GPU, my completely outdated 9800 GT still runs modern games at decent settings perfectly fine. You should have no trouble running current games with a 570M - don't blow more money than you need to.

"I want proof!"
"I have proof!"
"Whatever, I'm still right"
Dafuq man, don't ask for proof if you'll refuse it if it's not in your favor, logic fallacy for the bloody win.

I think Tym just likes to type. He seems to read the topic title and then picks 4 words randomly from the first post to repeat somewhere in the body of his post. Then he uses the rest of the words that he types to go off on whatever Tym-related information he is looking to divulge.
It's ok though because he's not a bad guy.

im not saying its a bad
mobile
gpu but im saying there are major technological changes incomming soon(tm) which either decreases prices or give you the option to get a good amount of additional performance for similar price soon(tm)

It's one of the cheaper places to be honest, I certainly can't find a similar laptop for much cheaper in Belgium or neighbouring countries. (and while I COULD order further from home, the shipping costs are likely going to be ridiculousà
