for the first time I watched EIRR was on one of Krebscoho's shoutcasts. it looked impressive and I always appreciate innovations and hard work so I spend time watching the tutorials and some more shoutcasts.I installed Ventrilo, I installed the mod and decided to give it a shot.I made a terror company (saved the changes) and enter the 'Battle'
there was just 2 games waiting for players (which is ok) both of them were waiting for allies as opponents.
so I needed to exit -
1 why there is no way to switch between allies and axis, except to quit and load the game again?
so made an airborne company and when I pressed 'save the changes' it looks like the game crushed -
2 it was 'retrieving company' forever
so I loaded the game again - again it was 'retrieving company' forever - I shut it down and on the 3rd attempt I was in the main window
I enter the 'Battle' and entered on of the games and I have read in the chat window 'who the fuck is RandomStar (my nickname)' - I was speechless
it appears to me that all the players in EIRR are community , everybody knows everybody and new players are accepted -I felt like 'well, you can come and play,it will be cool if there is more players to play this cool mod, but fuck you anyway'
that was yesterday. today I decided to give it a second chance and I saw the same tech problems- it was 'retrieving company' forever, I had to quit and restart 3 times. the response in the 'Battle'window was a horror
I wasn't able to create a game for 1 min. - I was clicking on 'create battle' again and again, I can hear the click as a response but nothing was changing.when I created the game I was unable to remove 2vs2 mark.I tried to ask the players in the chat window. the word that I typed disappeared in to nothingness to be seen 40 sec, later
and NOT it is not my Internet
pity...so much wasted time, I really wanted to try this mod
it looks like I will stick with CoH - all the best!!!

1 There is, in the upper right corner there is a button called "back to company selection"

2 it may be the firewall that is slowing it down but it may also just be that you have bad connection with the Server that hosts the launcher
There is another thing that might cause it, what anti virus program do you use?

Lastly the thing with the community not being super nice is just that not every day is a great day, you could allways just go on the EIRR ventrilio server and look around and find some nice people that would like to help you but it seems to be more dead than 20 days ago which it already was quite deserted by then.

You can change company without exiting - the little grey man in the top right corner.
Sometimes the launcher runs very slowly, perhaps you should have been more patient. Not to mention having a lot of programs running in the background will slow it down too.

As for the 'who the fuck...' part, I'm not entirely sure why it rendered you 'speechless', it's maybe a little foul mouthed buy it is by no means aggressive. People were probably genuinely wondering who you were, being new and all.

I think that you should probably give the mod another chance, but don't feel pressured to.

2. is most likely caused by your antivirus program (avast)
the AVAST antivirus web shield. If you have AVAST Antivirus open it, go to the real-time shields menu and disable the web shield before you start the EIRRLauncher.

I regret that your first experiences with eir have been so bad. most of the community is just bored at the moment because of the lack of progression by the development team. altho the current eir still has a lot to offer for you, it will take some effort to get that enjoyment out of it.

plus not noob friendly.
unless you do 1v1
or find another noob on the opposite team.

recommend you do 1v1 first. that way you know how the game is supposed to work, and people will see you have at least a few games under your belt means you wont F up their game even if you do suck.

And depending on what time you play (this mod is world wide or full of jobless people), you will experience different amount of players. Around noon (EST) i see like 3 or 4 games of 3v3 or 4v4.
