I just finished watching it, and it's surprisingly good.

Gives some real nice backstory on the Alien franchise, but is deliberately vague leaving the ending open for a sequel. Some of the acting is hammy but that's to be expected.
If you liked Alien (the original), I'd certainly recommend this.

I was of the hope that it wouldn't do the whole "deliberately vague" thing, it's a pretty lazy way to structure a plot. If they manage to capture the atmosphere of the original Alien though, it should be good.

The first half is decidedly better than the second half, before you see the actual "aliens" themselves.
There's one part that I won't ruin, but it was so retarded I actually laughed (was meant to be a serious part)
Michael Fassbender does a good job of being very un-human like, and Idris Elba rocked, everyone else was pretty average though.

It is a good film though, especially the first hour or so.
