S1 of the show was terrible, but I think S2 was quite alright.
Oh hey I brought up the show. Somebody call the internet police.

I only watched i think a few episodes of season 2 of the show, and well it was quite good, its just a drama in an apocalypse scenario. Not a zombie survival tv show that i assumed going into watching it.

I think they are just warming up so that you get a sense of getting to know the characters, that way it's more of a sentimental loss when they all die horribly.

I would also like to add I watch fox news everyday all day and will continue to watch it while being proud of that fact. I'm sure you enjoy your communist news network just as much.

I watched the show, and I like it, and I didn't read the walking dead until about two months ago. I've known about walking dead for quite a few years, but it was one of those things where i was like, this is going to be so good, I should wait it out, so I don't get addicted and need to wait for just one more comic to come out.
Watching the show, I never understood peoples complaints about it, I liked it, but I hated Carl and Lori, fucking idiots. Then I finally picked up Compendium 1, which goes up to issue 90 I think?
Good lord I couldn't put the sucker down, one of the only things I've read where when I got off the subway, I couldn't wait until I had my break at work to read some more!
Once I read the comic I understood why all my friends that read it hated the show, there's no reason for the show to make you hates the characters, I love Lori and Carl in the book, why do I hate them so much in the show?
But this is seriously a must read, I like it as much as I like Watchmen, and that's saying something, because Watchmen is the only thing other than a Dr. Suess book I've read more than once (I've read it three times). I plan on reading the Walking Dead again before Compendium 2 comes out.
Can't wait for NYC Comic Con this year now!

Read Starship Troopers. I've read that 23 times.
The Movie was entertaining but the biggest travesty was that they called it Starship Troopers. The 2 are not in anyway similar.

The book is good allright, but since they are nothing like each other neither should be judged by the merit of the other. They're both great in my mind, only completely separate entities.
There is one problem with the books though. The author seems to be, how should I say...a borderline fascist? It's particularly anvilicious about what he seems to think about civilians, how you can only be a real man if you are a soldier and that all civilians cowardly leeches of society.

I didn't really look into it too much like that, but now that you mention it, I can totally see that, when I read it a second time I'm going to remember that.

Considering it was written in 1959, It's Communism versus Democracy(Albeit modified) Heinlein essentially hypothesizes that the things that make a universal democracy are inherently flawed and destroy the system. Also, while communism is flawed for humanities individualistic nature it works very well for the hive mind bugs.
Part of why the book is so good is because of the 'retrospectives' he does regarding the 20th century. Some of them are pretty accurate and he wrote it over 50 years ago. The setting is democracy, and a somewhat fascist state. Voting privileges are only bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated they are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the societal body. While he's not bashing Civilians, the perspective of the main character doesn't really allow the author to explore the Civilian aspect more in depth.
He never actually hates on Civilians to an extreme degree, or calls them leeches. Quite the opposite infact, at the start of the book the Recruiter tells them they have more people signing up then they know what to do with so they give alot of them tough but stupid jobs.
You could definitely extrapolate a Police state setting from the Novel though. If they were to redo the movie in accordance with the Book I'm pretty sure thats exactly what you'd have.
