Pepperspray? What are you? a woman? The second amendment clearly states that every American has a duty to bear arms. What if the redcoats attack and try to reclaim the colonies??

On a more..russian point of view, depending on where you live, you can carry a in-pants belt concealed firearm, like a small size handgun, dunno what your state laws are. Allthough, having one could either protect you, or get you killed, its 50/50, in the situtation where hes gunna kill you even if you dont have a weapon, having one is better yea?

if there is a next time just say ''I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let me go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.''

and then happy slap that mong

Don't get a gun. I mean you didn't even see him coem, did you? Then what do you expect? To take out the gun while he has his hand on your throat?
Weapons will usually end up in the muggers hand. You are a victim for him, if he sees that you are trying to shoot him, then what do you think he will do.

I don't think there is a good solution to this. Luckily i have never been in that situation so far and i hope that i wont get into one! You would need to get some real good selfdefence trainings, some that you are really confident in. Like that report of the Kickboxer that was getting mugged and turned things around, ending with the mugger in hospital begging for his life.

ANd if he was in the aprtmt building then they should buy some cameras or something for security in there.

Wow, that sucks. At least you got out uninjured.

And, for what it's worth, you made the right call. Better to lose some money than to run a rather considerable chance of dying.

i got mugged by some russian/ukraine bastards 9 years ago, what was even more horrible some 10-15 saw it like 20 meters on the street, ofcourse they did not even shout at them.

one was suffocating me other kicking me in face. what i remember i hated that ppl who even didnt try to shout at them most. such fucking coward bastards. you feel like powerless, everything is quick and you are the only one without control.

sry pal, as others said be glad you are alive and try to take the best of it. I was then for like half to 1 year always looking across my shoulders, this is the most depressing part.

But try to take experience from it and learn how to avoid these kind of situations in future by being cautios. choose your ways, look to distence, judge ppl. this encounter sure make a bit paranoid, but it is for your good and deal with it.

its like back to basics when we were in more primitive societes and you had to be on alert nonstop then - now you have at least the advantage to be prepared more than others...

Next time whip out your cock and proceed to masturbate furiously. I doubt he will want to stick around for the end.

P.S. pretty sure you're not allowed to carry a concealed weapon in New York (large knife/gun but ck your laws) but you can always get a small knife. Plus, you can always change the way you carry yourself

Like liquid said, I think the best option is being totally paranoid, and like a few people have said in the thread, don't buy a weapon unless your willing to train with it so much that it becomes instinct.

I'm sure we've all seen videos of successful self defense, and unsuccessful self defense, usually it ends up being unsuccessful when the robber has his gun on you at close range already. A knife is far less scarier but I wouldn't tango with one if I didn't have a weapon. A lot of robbers get scared off when you appear to be on even fighting ground.

Now if 2 or more guys get the jump on you, might as well not try to be a fighter unless your pretty sure they are determined to cause series bodily harm to you.

I always carry a knife, but its also a useful tool.

Best thing if you are going to carry a weapon, learn to watch everyone around you. I am constantly scanning people near me to keep an eye on posture and movement.

Pulling a knife on a individual that you know nothing about except that he is a criminal and desperate enough to rob people sounds like excellent idea.

Plus points if he is armed and on drugs.

Specifically, pain inhibiting drugs... your knife will be pretty damn useless unless you know exactly where to place it, bleeding wont stop someone like that, and if he close enough for a nice he's close enough to kill you.

You sure the robbers willing to risk a fight over some $, when he can run and find someone submissive to rob? A lot of evidence seems to suggest that when their victim gets violent, they tend to retreat.

And here is the funny part, someone who is not willing to fight over some $ is likely not willing to murder over some $, but chances are if you come across someone who is willing to fight for $ but simply run once he gets what he has? Push a guy like that into a corner and he might well decide to shank you in the heat of the moment. At heart a mugging is usually about the money, even idiotic criminals recognize the fact that murder is a bad idea, even if they already willing to mug someone.

Bottom line desperate enough to fight to death if necessary and stand a significantly higher chance of injury/death for replaceable cards and pocket change? Bets are, the mugger is much more willing, desperate and unstable than you are.

Pulling a knife takes less than a second, they flip out no problem. Putting a knife somewhere that kills is not as hard as you might think.

Odds are the guy robbing you isn't covered, you don't need to chase, give them the option of running away.

Anyway, I'll take my chances. Odds are if they mugger has pulled a weapon he plans to use it anyway. Just like I keep a gun in my car.

AmPM's military background? Engineers? He can't defuse a robber.

Riki got ambushed anyways, it works even on the best of soldiers.

I know it's easy to inflict a mortal injury with it but that's not what I meant, What I also know is it's hard to accurately put it somewhere that will render the assailant incapable of stabbing you back. While lethal, it might not stop the other guy from stabbing you back and with something like a knife you wont have kinetic force on your and it does not really let you strike from a safe distance.

While you'll probably win (specially with training) It's unlikely you'll walk out without a cut of your own if it's a knife fight, throw painkilling drugs into the mix and it's likely both can wind up dead.
