i was thinking there should be a vote for the map team leader, Unkn0wn is already a balance team member and it might be nice to let someone else lead the mapping... there should be a vote with candidates put forward etc so forth. (of course Unkn0wn could just rig, sorry i mean win, the vote )

no i was saying, instead of a self apointed leader, then people can vote for a candidate for the job, although one limitaion must be met: the person must be on the map team, of course people might vote for you . it has nothing to do with your abilities...

Still... do you vote for balance team members or the lead developer of this mod? I can't be both balance team & map team?
I'm confused about the purpose of this thread, I was appointed as map team leader because at the time I was one of the only active mappers and really cared about the future of the map community. I still do today, as I intend on trying to get maps build into the modification, etc.
Also, map team leader is an administrative function to be honest, I doubt anyone who gets it would get access to the development forums for it. Kolath is a senior mapper and has moderation power on the mapping forums, which puts him just as high as me in regards to mapping. (And I'm still more active than he is! Ha!)
The role of 'map team leader' just illustrates that there's a member of the Europe in Ruins development team that pays specific attention to the mapping community, maps himself and does a continueing effort to promote maps within the modification.
It's symbolic & administrative.
P.S I have always had the intention to pass on the title in the long run when someone truly competent & extremely active & dedicated steps up. But untill this day, I have yet to see a 200% dedicated mapper on the team. (Which is understandable as mapping really takes a lot of effort and time)

He is doing a fine job, I see no need to change the Map team lead. If at some point he decided he was to busy for it I would just assume they would appoint someone.
I find him to be accessible and helpful, which I think are really the only two qualifications needed.

And what you should have done Fldash was to express whole-heartedly support democracy and wait for everyone to decide everything is fine as it is afterall.
