Alright, a lot of people seem to want more interesting things to Allies, more units and weapons so basically more stuff to kill and lose. So I made this thread to show people one crucial thing that is there to kill majority of the ideas.

Allies, already have everything they pretty much used in the war

Is it really so? One can actually see it for themselves. When I went to look for interesting things I found myself disappointed. The only things I managed to find were already added to Allied arsenal or are not practicaly of any use. One thing I indeed did find was few variations from Sherman but even if such were added- it'd still be the same damn tank with nothing new added to it and Sherman with 75mm and 76mm already turns out to be like 2 different sherman variants. Supposedly we could go few years back and stare at the African campaign and pick out the Matilda and Valentine. Sure these vehicles are quite obsolete by this state of the gameplay, both are armored well but are slow as hell. Who'd want a Churchill like medium tank? I'm sure someone would.

For weapons there might be plenty around but even if added they'd still be obsolete due to BARs being simply the best lmg hands down. Who wants 30' cals lmg on a more expensive infantry squad when a cheaper squad gets BAR? Maybe someone, esp if it is a reward unit.

While the only natural choice of things people want is vehicles- I hate to break it to you. All of the useful vehicles are already in the game. So the only thing left is support weapons and Infantry. US already gets a reward unit of M5 76mm ATG and British pack up their own moveable 17pdr anti tank gun. Does this literally mean that the most viable anti tank platforms are already in the game? Are there more of these?

This leaves us machineguns. Vickers is already for the British with its SF so I don't know what else to add them, this leaves only one natural selection of machine guns. The heavy MG 50' cal. Then what of it? Its role? What would it be? Logical answer would be slower rate of fire 30' cal with a longer range that can damage vehicles? Seems logical unfortunately the 30' cal HMG team already does all of this in the same package for a damn cheap cost too. Pop AP rounds and those pesky light vehicles are gone if they don't disappear within seconds. Heavier mortar? Perhaps- but British already get it in a form of a emplacement with added range so even that is already in the game. For US maybe a heavier mortar, but where to aquire one?

So what is left? Infantry. Now the glory of seeing a variety in infantry. It could be so fun to see each Company have its different variation of infantry. Canadian Arty has Canadian infantry, Airborne has Airborne Riflemen but all of the others have their same standard infantry. Commandos are awsome with their lee enfields but their heavy cost reduces their number on the field and so does their- low survavibility. The mod has added in ANZAC assault infantry for the British and a flamer unit as well, ontop of it Americans get Marines. Is it possible to aquire more? In the previous thread with a similar name, there was a suggestion of adding in a cloaked unit type for the Allies. What would be its purpose? AP? AT? Its upgrades would be what?

So- if this is true the only logical conclusion I've drawn is this: Allies, already, have, everything

See if you can find anything useful, I tried and I failed at it. I used those two links to find more stuff but I only found the same shit in different variations and things that have no real purpose nor models.

www.wwiivehicles.com

www.wwiiequipment.com

Little rules: Suggest and brainstorm, no point in arguing balance in this thread. Suggest, brainstorm, rub your forehead to a wall until either one gives up under the pressure. Find what you want, give your wildest imaginations, the worst that can happen is nothing.

Because a forum post should be like a woman's skirt. Long enough to cover the subject material, but short enough to keep things interesting.

I don't find the lack of variation off putting at all on Allies.

Things that might be interesting, Sherman 105, Stuart (LV hunter?), 120mm Mortar, but that's really about it.

The US already has most everything. The .50cal could work, but the .30 already fits in there...I mean really, the US Army is all about effective easy to build and use equipment that is all standardized. That is the thing I like about it.

Update from my part.

Daimler Light vehicle for British is available as a model, though it is used in the Blitzkrieg mod

Daimler Scout Car also available for British as a model, though it is used in the blitzkrieg mod

Daimler Scout car would be useful due to British having no proper jeep. It would smell and act almost like a PE scout car.

Sidenote

Please, replace the Stuka recon with this. My ears start to bleed whenever that thing flies across the field with its divehorn. Model from Blitzkrieg.

There are plenty of mods that have new unit models, question is: Can they be used?

PS: There is a 105mm Sherman variant somewhere. Salan used it in his mod.

Brits do sorely need a cheap scout unit outside of the mandos jeep.

Recons in a bren carrier just don't cut it, and is expensive at 8 pop just to scout
Compared to the 2and 3 pop options of other factions.

We could borrow a lot from theblitz mod balance being the only real issue

Allies have enough low-mid health/armour lv's and shit.

Give a few to axis and give the allies what they should have: some giant ass juicy beasts to go head to head with the giant ass Axis legendaries. Super persh is the right idea, but for brits there is literally nothing.

Well, help us find the right animated models for it and we can implement it. It's not that we don't WANT more tanks for allies, it's simply that they are much harder to come by. The COH modding community seems to have a preference for German heavies.

For a reason. When you look at the site www.wwiivehicles.com you can see how many units allies had. Majority in there is already in the game. German tech however is almost unlimited, so many different things.

I did try and look for a A39 Tortoise for the British. No luck so far. There was also a A33 heavy assault tank but I don't think it exsists either. The best one can come up with is Valentine, Matilda and Crusader

I know for brits there's 3 bren carrier varients that could be implimented.

One with a boys at rifle mount or 2 pounder which exists in blitz mod

And then there's the flamethrower and mortar variant which I'm sure could be produced with minimal effort by modelers cutting and pasting from existing sources.

95mm Churchill is a possibility.

Actually you could pretty well C&P half the blitz mod roster into here for a Tsunami of new units.

I'm sure that Blitzkrieg mod crew wouldn't be happy to see EIRR leeching their units out just like that. Needs more negoitation

I'M not suggesting flat out plagiarism, heck with what the blitzkrieg crew put into the mod I'm sure theyd take legal action.

But I'm sure a few of our dev members are in good standing with them, and could negotiate the acquisition of some units

It's already been done, where do you think 90% of the reward units come from?

Almost all their models are public. The ones that are not we havent touched.

And who would they sue? We all live in different countries. No one will take an international law suit over a not for profit modification to a video game.

There is a heavy sherman. It's called the Jumbo, it's just somehow misplaced itself in infantry doctrine.

Not somehow, it was a concious decision to have the infantry doctrine feature a heavy infantry support tank. You have to remember the Infantry doctrine didn't have all that much going for it before, AB and Armour were far more appealing overall.

You know the Easy 8 was just a Sherman with a different suspension right? I mean people keep mentioning it like it was some sort of amazing upgrade.

You could have a Sherman Easy 8, it would be a different model for the normal Sherman...
