That doesn't make any sense, several COH mods have imported the Russian faction from Eastern Front and have been doing fine. It's a free mod and they don't own any content that they create.

Should definitely add some of those ostheer tanks as reward units.

Those other mods have the people that create the EF models and animations on their dev team. They all work together. Afaik, it's only just N44 that has the russians.

How about you go ask them what their policy is if another mod wants to use the EF models.

There are two kinds of modders

1. I made this shit, since I made it fuck off, make your own stuff.
2. I made this shit, I love watching people use it to create awesome mods!

Ask for permission then, and if they say no, just take them anyways.

I dont think you get it.

If we take them, we lose our moddb distribution and advertising. We literally have no way of attracting new players without a lot more footwork and effort, which means bumping threads on fourms where no one cares about mods. Its not a matter of "if" they would notice, but when. Pretty sure that everyone would figure it out real quick if a new mod suddenly had all the russians and new othseer units that were just released a day ago.

Man, ive seen the numbers. We take those models and the mod dies.

If they wanted the models to be used, they would've made them public on RN.

Why do you guys want russians in coh anyways? What's the point, we got the exact same thing being developed right now with eirr2 and can just port this into that instead of the other way around.  We would be stuck with 2 EIRRs that have the same factions. Fail?

Also this is a pretty shameful discussion, they are probably reading this thread already, linked in their secret asscave forums on their site, we should relocate it fast to our own secret asscave forum before they read this if they haven't already

Nobody is stealing anything, that's not how we do things around here. Besides, implementing a whole new faction is a massive undertaking, not exactly something we have the people or time for in regards to eir1. Better to just wait for Eir2

COH2 doesn't even allow modding, as per SEGA policy so that they can sell DLC. Also it's not stealing, it's copying free content. Which is not against the Moddb terms of use.

its pony....what do you expect.

sides, either they are ending modding, or found -dev was capable of compromising servers and legit gameplay which would be one good reason to shut it down.

People with -dev in there launch options can't join regular games, at least that's my experience with it.

By not enabling modding they have doomed their game into obsolescence rather quickly. Mods keep games alive, heck I'm still playing DOW due to the mods it has.

As a business person, here's how I would do it.

Release the game with no modding abilities. Allow sales to carry on as usual. As sales start to slow in 6 or 8 months, then allow modding. This will drive a new sales growth because of modders, but mostly from all the new stuff posted on the internet from the modders.

Yes you will loose some sales to hard core modders who puff their chest and say they refuse to buy it because of no modding, but the lose will be no where near the gain from releasing later.

You guys realize that -dev is not needed to run mods in vcoh right? What it does is make the game load individual .rgd over the complete sga files. It's mostly for testing and if modding is now impossible (aka -mod) then there are worse issues than -dev being awol.l.
