Got a problem with someone trying to keep Steam competitive? Its not like Ubi is going to do it.

True, tho EA and origin would have to do something transcendent to compete, steam already offers ridiculous sales .

I hardly call that competing to be honest, BF3 is the only reason why I got it personally.

Without things like green man gaming and humble bumble the oligarchical nature of the gaming industry would just push up prices even more.

I would also like to add I watch fox news everyday all day and will continue to watch it while being proud of that fact. I'm sure you enjoy your communist news network just as much.

i agree with you. Its proven, monopolies suck, competition breeds excellence. only reason steam is so awesome is because they have competition.

Steam doesn't have any competition.

Having the largest market share =/= not having completion, will you ever try to learn how stuff works before you speak?

Gamersgate, Green man, GOG and do I have to go on?

If steam got worse and these other services got better by comparison (and sales aside, I actually prefer gamersgate for a couple of reasons) people would migrate, if there was no competition then steam could be steaming pile of shit and we'd still use it, like steam was some 6-7 years ago. Market domination is not the same as having no competition. It simply means you are leading the race and if you trip that can change in a hurry, hence why they have to stay competitive.

Fucking hell, that's the very basics of sales economics isn't it? Tank, help me out here Wink

This. The only reason Steam got so much better lately is because after they got out front in the Direct Download race, other services have caught up and have their own, so now Steam has to give us something so it only makes them better.

There's no other reason for them to do the steam sales (which developers hate) Valve has a pretty good customer service model in terms of providing games, but i dont know how their economic model, im curious how much money they're making.

Are they K-Mart so far ahead but on a weak structure and prone to implode

Walmart, real far ahead because they give customer what they want and making bank at the same time.

Developers don't hate steam sales. It's a way for them to make huge amounts of money on games that are no longer selling.

GOG only have old games, GMG sell steam keys, Gamersgate is just a marketplace for paradox interactive. They're not any real competition.

Steam makes quite an obscene profit, they charge quite a high percentage of all the sales+they have by far the largest share in the market.
