Now, this may be a saving grace to many of you who have tried to play games with me, and found an unpleasant surprise in the Game Lobby. We all know that I am the 'special' person, who can't connect to about 15 different people in EIR: APEX, Apoxian, Brian/ tempell, Bonte, Bubba, Draygon, Frsd, Kotori, Nevyen, Slowzo, Smithy, Stumpster, Tehwulf, Tharulerme, Unkn0wn, WarGod, Wraith, Bobaka (my brother [Mr. Hat] added a few this morning, so my apologies if his spelling is total cheese, the italicized names are those added today).

Before I continue, I've got to establish that it is not necessarily my fault if I cannot connect to one or two of those people. I know for a fact that I CAN connect to Apoxian, I have played probably 4 or 5 games with him. However, my brother insisted that I couldn't connect to him today, so he must go on my list. Also, Marine once had connection problems with me, and I believe he changed something, without sacrificing speed or reliability, and he was then able to connecto to meMy modem, or computer, or whatever the problem is, does have good days and bad days.

To put things in a nutshell, I cannot connect to too many people on EIR for this problem to be excusable (or at least I think so). I am assuming that the problem lies in my modem, a Bell Speedstream 5200. It is rather outdated, and I wish to buy a new one.

Now that I've finished my rambling, I want to know if you (EIR members) have any particular modems that are decently priced (I'm hoping for something under $40.00) that you have specifically. That way I will be able to pinpoint the problem if that particular modem does not help my connectivity.

Any suggestions?

Whats your modem?

Btw, usually modem problems are resolved by going into DMZ and/or opening your ports.

I can't open ports with my current modem, and the new one is $80.00. DMZ-ing, or whatever it is, is not possible either. The basic Bell modem does not allow me to tamper with anything

I believe what we are doing is switching to Roger's internet service. They do not specify what modem it comes with, but they give a picture, can someone help me identify it for me?
