I saw the mod in a topic for warhammer 40k on gamereplays like almost a year ago, and I registered for this before I realized it was for CoH. I just got Company of Heros a week or two ago, and I saw the mod in the ModDB and I remembered I signed up here. I hope you guys won't mind a newb to CoH playing with you.

Hey welcome to the game. We here at EIR are a friendly bunch since we're always growing. This is my second week playing the mod myself, but I am a very experienced CoH player as well.

If you have any questions or the like feel free to post it! Don't forget to download Ventrilo if you haven't already, we like hearing people's voices.

If you want some training, 1v1 games don't count against your record in EIR, so they make for great training missions. There are always people on vent or sitting idle in the launcher willing to help you out with that.

Don't forget to download the map packs in the map development forum as many players host games on those maps.

40k is a fun game too. I've got Dawn of War + the expansion packs as well as a tournament ready Ork army for the tabletop game! /flex

By the way are you Axis or Allies?

 Cool

And get Ventrilo. It's like teamspeak, more or less, but if you want to play games, you really need it.

If you don't have a mic, still get it, you can listen to your allies and it helps communicating when setting up games after the launch.

If you don't have Vent, it will be nearly impossible to set up games if there are any complications.

I'm American Cheesy. I've had vent for other games so that was easy enough.

Welcome to the community, Owlseatmice!  If you are brand new to CoH, I would recommend playing a few skirmish games against the computer in regular CoH to get a feel for how units operate.  Then, as other players suggested, jump on vent and play some 1v1 games.  Another learning opportunity is to watch replays that have been posted on the replay forum.  That can help you get an ideas for strategies.

Once again, welcome!

There are lots of new players to this (me being one) so it shouldn't be too difficult to find a 2v2 with all noobs.

I will jump in any game in the launcher, I'm sure Ucross does too.  And based on past posts, I'd say Forefall also.  I'm completely against playing a game when I know my team has an advantage in both experience, veterancy, and skill.

Sadly some members of this community don't have the same morals as Fldash, although most of us do. You'll figure out who the black sheep are yourself. Just remember to play a few 1v1s so you can get in practice before joining a bigger team game!  Cool

Whatever you do, don't EVER play against AmPm, Ucross, Akranadas, Dr.Nick, or anyone else on the top 20 leaderboard. They WILL destroy you.

I'm just saying this because lately, I've heard that some veteran players are noob bashing (Not them specifically), and I don't want you to become a victim and have your company destroyed by a stacked team.  Wink

the other side of this ferret is that we don't have much control or option in who we get to fight, us experienced players that is.   If we want to play, we usually want to play with people we have bonded with, and the only people to play against are those that are on, and numerically speaking, its impossible for us to get games just against each other.

so seriously, think a bit before you speak.  Because if you were around for the last year and knew the system good enough, would you not still want to play even if your actual only choice was against new players?

personally i'd only advertise to not play against the players who spam or take advantage of things that are spammable (grief tactics)

Once again, I am NOT implying that the mentioned players do any of the aforementioned noob-bashing. I'm just saying that I have seen people do it before, and am merely cautioned the Owlseat to be careful.

Oh yeah. And in case you don't know, this is ferret, too.

It's great you have camaraderie with players you've known for months, but newer players don't have that luxury which is why I put the mod before myself and attempt to play with them instead of against them.  Sure, if I notice that they don't have any desire to win or to listen, I won't play with them again, but I find that the exception rather than the rule.  Even some highly annoying players are decently skilled enough that I will play matches with them...

Undecided Sorry. I had advice in my head but it came out offensively. My apologies to everyone. I'm pulling it down.

heh, we know its you, im sure atleast.

and ya its a tuff one when people choose to fight the newer players over others.  I will admit there are times I will choose one game over another depending who i am playing with.  I personally try to stay away from GOOD teams when I am not playing with a very good person myself, its just a headake for both of us once we get into it.

There are a lot of older members here who are easily breaking 1000 games played.  It would have been interesting if EiR had kept stats that far back, and having that many games played, even with  the system constantly changing, you learn how to play a lot more then the rbs/vet/cps will ever give you ....

No. I'm talking about players that will play a noob SPECIFICALLY to destroy him and gain vet.

that is one thing that vent causes imo.  Annoying people will be judged harshly because we are in actual community contact with them.  If someone only posted on the website you would ultimately have a very different opinion of them then if they were on vent causing a rukkus.

Myself and ucross played a game with mrhat last war, it was a fun game actually and I used it to defend mrhat on more then one occasion when people would say he sucked because they found him annoying... I should go back to university and write my thesis on the internet and its communities ... hmm!
