The intention of this thread is simple, it's to point out the problematic maps in the DB & mappacks that no one ever plays, for whatever reason that may be. The first map I'd like to highlight is:

Hurtgen Snow
This map has been finalised quite a while ago but now my question is: does anyone ever play this map?
If not, how come? Be honest but try not to offend the creator.

The reason for my inquiry is simple, looking through the list of current maps in the database, I've come across quite a few maps that I for one never recall anyone playing. While I appreciate the work every mapper puts into his/her maps, if a map does not get played and there's no intention of fixing/changing certain aspects of the mod, the map will eventually have to get removed out of the map database and mappacks.

While this may seem harsh, it's in our best intrest that we provide a map database and map package that puts forward only those maps that people actually play, support & love. Else we're simply wasting megabytes on filling the mappacks with maps people will never even play and end up cluttering the ingame map dropdown menu.
(Speaking of that fl-, any chance when we can 'hide' the crappy Relic maps that no one plays to clean up the map selection menu and to display only the  actual compatible maps?)

Snow is annoyingly large, other than that the map layout is rather lacking for EiR. No real terrain other than trees.

Best map ever never played by anyone at any time besides myself.

2 undestroyable bridges and several water crossings btw.

Hurtgen snow is broken in MCP
sectors are HUGE and defending players can cap all but the spawn sector for the attackers, then they can sit in the edges of those sectors with one man and make sure attackers take a long time to get a single territory outside of spawn   - Map looks nice, great details (when you zoom in snow goes backwards, can that be fixed?)  but the sector layout is totally borked for MCP

The snow can't be fixed. It's a problem the engine has. Rain does that too, since snow is just modified rain.

looks like it needs more cover or like a few fields or something. Seems if someone had an 88 they could own most of the map.

Or Dawn. There are always 2-3 people who don't have the bloody map because it's not "in the mappack," and therefore, takes too much intelligence for people to go download all the beta maps manually. AGH!

I try to force people to play St.Laurant but they fail at finding it. It needs to be added to the database.

Laurent got changed to 6p saint laurent in the module file while the map was still 4p saint laurent. I'm not sure if its fixed yet, on either end.

The problem is that in the module file it says: 6p_St_Laurent while the actual name of the sga is: 6p_Saint_Laurent.

So noone can play the current version without manually changing the module file.

Blame iggi, renaming his file. Rename the file manually yourself for the time being.
(Less effort than changing the .module file Wink.)

That explains where that map went! I played it before and loved it, well until he changes it it's too difficult to get everyone to change it.

Oh well.
